Y’know what is difficult? Magic. What is even harder? Vampire magic. What is somehow even harder than that? Doing vampire magic while not being a vampire. Here is a classic case of an amateur mage trying their… her… his… (doesn’t really matter at this point) hand at vampire magic, namely the ability to become a creature of the night, a bat! Not to bore you with how REAL vampires get the job done but whatever that mage did was probably bound to happen. Their thoughts got muddled, first it was uplifting, the ability to be suspended in air, then it became something like weightlessness, then a robust… rubber sheen? Yeah bats have those. It took only a few more misguided incantations and BWWWOOOOMPHH!! It was a new bat balloon!
Immediately the transferrance of form from what can be assumed to be a pretty stock standard humanoid into a bwoomphalicious bat balloon pelted it with all kinds of new sensations. The rush of pressure and air up through the new form lifted them up, chest high and ears popping up to wobble along. It was exhilarating! The papers of that old mage blew away, a gust of night air blowing open the window and swirling around the bat balloon. It was an intoxicating sensation, the air puffing up and along its new wobbly blobby wings, it came with the first flap. Then the second flap. Then it just couldn’t help itself but keep flapping and flapping along! That is what a bat balloon does! Flap flap flappity flap flapping!
Blown out of the window (or flapping into the night as it may have perceived things), the bat balloon let all of those little worries weigh it down no longer. It was a bat balloon, it didn’t have time for those silly things like memory or names or whatever, all it knew, all it needed to know, was to flap! Bounding up and down and up and down as rubber sheen met starlight, the bat balloon was happy. It wasn’t aware of what it had been or that anything was wrong, how could it have been? Just keep flapping along, and squeak to your heart’s content.
