My father soon became a shadow of his former self. His warm smile was now a cold and dead scowl. His eyes as dark as the vast sea he ventured in to find the monster who wounded his beloved.
The town started to question if my mother was worth saving. As time went on, resources became more and more scarce. My father could only turn to the people and scoff.
"After all we have done? After all we have taught? We risked our lives that night and we were attacked by that monster for YOU! EVERYTHING FOR YOU! So when my beloved is fighting for her life...I had hoped that you would stay by her side."
His expeditions became longer and more frequent. He lost his crew, his boat, and the aid of the town. He was deemed unfit to raise me and I was put in foster care. Every so often I would see him walking the streets only to walk into the ocean and return days later. He became obsessed with killing this beast.
Mother eventually died. I didn't know her that well, but it made me wonder what she had to be like to drive my father to this point. His once big heart soon began to twist and contort into a demonic rage. He would sometimes go mad in a blind rampage when defending the town or returning from sea.
The town would chain him down, but he would break free with little to no effort. They would warm me to stay away from him, but he would simply ignore me. Maybe I looked to much like my mother... maybe he couldn't stand to look at me. Maybe he was too ashamed. But, it didn't matter. He eventually went blind from the constant exposure to the sea water.
One day, the sky lit up. Word spread that the prayers for a sun were answered by the God, Belenus. The Dark Days were over, but my father wouldn't be able to see it. He eventually died at sea and was finally put to rest at the bottom of the ocean. The chains pulled him down and he would live on in legend as Shadeux, The Sailors Sorrow.
