Today, Balto is 30. Released in US theatres on this day back in 1995.
It may have had a rough time at the box office (for many reasons..) but its influence on many - myself included - is undoubtable.
Here's a lil thing I've got plans for~

Toy Story is only partly to blame, when Universal cut most of the marketing (Simon Wells has said they didn't really know how to market it in the first place) and screened it in a total of only 1,433 theaters across the ENTIRE globe. Compare that Toy Story, which was at about 2,500 theatres in the domestic US on the opening weekend and had plenty of marketing... Balto excelled on the home video market though, as by that point folks had obviously learned about the film through word of mouth and seeing it at the local rental stores. Universal set it up, basically, then tried to milk and insult it further with their woeful in-house sequels that shat on the work of Amblimation (which by that stage had become Dreamworks).
The music from Balto is the glorious work of James Horner (RIP) who went on to utilise a lot of the melodies he used in Balto two years later in Titanic. The maritime buff I am is pleased by that.

That’s actually interesting to hear about. I never knew there was more to it than that. That’s cool that you know about James Horner. He was one of my favorite film composers and I was absolutely devastated when he passed a few years back. My favorite Score of his was the Braveheart soundtrack. Always thought it was beautiful. Also, if you listen to his score for Jumanji, there’s definitely some parts in it that also has remnants of the Balto score as well. It was another 1995 film, so i assume he was probably working on both at the same time. Hey and Marry Xmas btw!
