Here's a new piece from
just in time for Halloween.
I'm elated to have been able to have another opportunity to work with abluedeer for this commission. Given the short time frame and the queue that he had to work with and the media used I have to give him my sincerest thanks and gratitude for being able to deliver this image in time for the holiday. I do hope you enjoy this picture as much as I do.
I really love abluedeer's watercolor works and it's been very long time since I had asked for a second watercolor piece. I thought that this would be the perfect medium to depict this particular scene here. The eerie feel translated well and the overall gloom of the piece resonates the way I was expecting. The vibrant colors highlight a very young Asphyxia perfectly too.
For this holiday, I wanted to have something a little more frightful than cute or humorous. So I decided to have abluedeer draw Asphyxia as a child out trick or treating in the neighborhood. Here she wold be about 8 - 10 years old and this would be the first appearance of her at such a younger period in her life. I think abluedeer depicted her youthfulness very well.
It's nearing the end of the evening and young Aspy was out with her group of friends going door to door collecting candy from all the houses on Halloween night. As they made their way back home after amassing their fill of the night's offerings they decided to take a shorter route back down a lesser traveled side street. Eager to hurry back to the house to examine all the precious delights they accumulated they scampered off.
Asphyxia was having trouble with the lace ribbons on one of her shoes and stopped to adjust them. Once she got that sorted out, she picked up her candy bucket and grabbed her flashlight and was about to catch up with her friends when she heard something that she couldn't discern from the other side of the hedge. Feeling a little alone with her friends so far ahead of her she quickened up her pace a little more as her heart pounded.
Without much warning she found herself being entangled by something from behind and was hoisted up off her feet. She couldn't scream for help as a shadowy tendril had encircled itself around her throat, constricting around it enough to keep her silenced and helpless as it began to entwine more sinewy lengths around her appendages. Effectively restraining her as it slowly dragged her back over the hedge and into the shadows, leaving only her flashlight and bucket of candies spilled out atop the cold, concrete sidewalk.

And from the shadows creep, unsavory things from the deep.
Trick or treat, one's heart does beat.
The scary things do creep.
Hinder yeah, hinder yonder of the prey, praying now in dismay.
For darkness falls on youths bright glimmer, as the bushes rustle and shimmer.
The scary things do creep.
A silent gasp, a heart beats fast....
