Nother update for my fursona.
Apparently, it's become really popular to copy Avy's robotic eye and face plate design, so it's lost all of its symbolism for me. Thanks guys... Well, not only that. The thought process the face plate represented was not a healthy one and, after my brain practically exploded in on itself during finals, I decided I needed to work on my positive thinking. And I figured if anything can change my thought process, it's Avy and how I handle her design.
So, her eye is still fucked up, and it probably always will be. But it's no longer hidden behind a big gaudy piece of metal, she's not pretending the injury doesn't exist. It's there for everyone to see, and for her to come to terms with... or at least that's the idea.
I actually looked up images of dogs with eye injuries to try and make this accurate. It's supposed to be somewhat gross looking, not pretty or anything. Probably oozes pus from time to time, maybe gets real crusty when she wakes up in the morning. But she just picks the crust off, puts on her smile, and goes about the day. That's just how it goes.
Anyway, just a little concept work. Things will be made clearer when I post her updated ref sheet, which I am working on now. Been working on it since I cut her hair. x3
Please stop taking bits and pieces of my character. I am tired of seeing people with spotted hyena fursonas with one robot eye and a pit bull dog form, and either a lynx, tiger or a caracal cat form... that always wears a hat and has scruffy dark brown/black hair, and large white markings... and so on and so forth.

It isn't so much that people were stealing the concept. I lay no claim to robot eyes or parts. What was really aggravating was the fact that a robot eye could look, literally, like anything, yet every single part robot hyena looked exactly like Avy. Rather than take the time to design their own, people just swiped Avy's face plate and went about their day like it was nothing.
If you're an artist, the point is to create and be creative. Lazily taking the designs and concepts of others is not creative... Well, theft aside, I think this was a good change. x3 Thanks.

This kind of makes me want to elaborate as to why Frankie has mis-matched eyes....its subtle, but the right eye is supposed to be lighter than the left. Not blind, just.....different.
And in terms of drawing, this is much easier to do than robot eye...
Also: Bully-breed dog/hyena 'sonas seem to be getting more popular. o3o
I think I'm still the only Bull terrier/hyena tho.
I need to draw more things....lots more things....of awesome people. :3

I dunno. I think it might be best if you keep it on the downlow. I've found that the more I seem to explain about Avy, the more and more people like to copy/rip off her traits. Frankie is a really unique fursona, might be best to keep her hush hush, lest she be the next target of thievery.

I've never understood why people want to copy other people's fursona's. I mean, I understand the "oh I like this design" part, but a fursona is meant to be a representation of you, not your favourite artist.
I still love Avy's design. And I kind of prefer this eye, probably because I like natural designs more.

I... will never understand it either. I mean, I understand picking a few things- Avy's v chest marking was inspired by someone else's sona. But taking everything? Making a dark brown spotted hyena with a blue left eye and an orange right eye, dark spikey hair, and snaggle teeth, even going so far as to give the character Avy's three whisker dots? I'll never understand people who think that is cool. ><
But I'm glad you like the adjustment. I think I will miss the robot eye, but only because I really liked its symbolism. But this is probably a better option.

Yeah I partially blame myself for making spotted hyenas the new popular choice for people who don't want to do wolf fursonas. Especially when you count the number of spotted hyena sonas that don't actually have spots. I believe it's because Avy did not have spots for a long time, so everyone just... forgot that the main thing that makes a spotted hyena what it is are its spots. ><
Aw man, it's a damn shame that people keep snagging bits and pieces of your fursona for themselves. :c
Though, I really don't understand why people do it? I mean, a fursona is supposed to represent you... not someone else, lmfao. People are weird, I guess.
ANYWHO! Personally? I adore her much more this way. ;A;
I think the subtlety of this version, compared to the face plate has... I don't know. A bit more of an impact? I mean, with the plate, it's like... Oh. Another robot eye. Too obvious or generic or something? What am I even saying anymore omfg. UHM. Yeah. It's just... the scars and dead eye just make me want to learn more about -why- her face/eye are like that, and about her past, etc. The plate just seemed more for show, from my viewpoint anyway. I don't even know anymore aaaaaa this is the voice of exhaustion, I swear. ;A;
... And my louysy attempt at being an active watcher.

No, no you're fine. x3 In fact, I totally agree with you. The plate seemed to be too... much. Too much. It almost seemed too unbelievable, so the symbolism didn't register with anyone but myself. Everyone was distracted by the shiney desu crap.
I agree, I think this change was for the better, regardless of what initiated it. x3

Despite the fact that people will always rip off the more creative artists I am glad to see that you always find a way around. I'm not too fond of these kids coming onto the internet now a days/art websites like this one and just plain out copying what they see. Yes there is a line where you learn and so on and so forth, but learning I think only entitles copying or mimicking certain poses or photographs to get anatomy down. Learning does not, in my opinion, include taking the ideals of others and using them as your own. Very little do these kids know that our fursonas have personal symbolism to us and they do in fact mean a great deal to us, even down to the slightest detail.
My fursona's breed is probably pretty generic, but it does have symbolism to me. Her markings all have meaning to them and I did in fact try to keep them natural to the two breeds she is mixed with which is difficult far more difficult then people think. I have taken a good couple of years at least developing my fursona, Midnight, and what do I see? A bunch of kids with wolf/German Shepherd dog hybrids that have the same facial marking or something similar to it and a similar back marking. Come on how lammmmeeee! Though what can we do, I guess it's better to just live and let live. I've been doing a great deal of "training" myself to come to the terms that those who matter will know who is telling the truth. Those who don't matter shouldn't really bother me. Just have to go about your day and keep looking forward.
Anyways enough ranting on my part, the art is what needs to be addressed here! I personally really love this new look for Avy :). It's very natural and yes eye deformities are hard to draw/capture, especially when it comes to expression. While they don't move a lot they still move a bit when it comes to different moods. I have a dog at work that comes in and he has an eye similar to this, he was only born with one eye. It doesn't blink or do anything but the muscle around his eye still changes slightly when it comes to him offering a dog to play or when he's just plain out relaxed.
I really respect your positive attitude and out look on things, no matter what happens you always tend to pick yourself back up again. It takes a lot of personal strength, believe me I know. There's a lot of mental training that goes on, but in the end you come out the better man. For someone to be able to tolerate so much and take so much without literally breaking down you have to be very strong at heart.
