It's 1989 and the flames of a New War are flaring up. Thousands of square miles of German landscape will become a stage for sweeping battles between the best NATO and Warsaw Pact has to offer.
Lead your Regiment through the inferno of a wide-scale Cold War conflict in this new Real-Time Tactics game. Break through the lines, call in artillery and air support, maneuver, feign retreats, and stage mobile defenses. Do not relent.
The Platoon Command system lets you orchestrate battles with unprecedented precision and ease. No need to micromanage every infantryman - you're a Commanding Officer, not a sergeant.
Form your force on the fly. Selecting the main Regiment is just a start. You can expand your army during the game by calling in unique Task Forces, each bringing its own equipment and off-map support options.

This is a single-player focused RTS set in recent history during the cold war.
If you've played any of the Eugen Systems Wargame series, you will have a flavour of what you are getting here. If not, then just grab this and enjoy!
Game modes include skirmish (different ways to win), and operations (essentially story-based scenarios).
Easier to master than Wargame, grittier than World in conflict
Although the late 1980's Cold War has been a popular setting for the genre Regiments is a welcome addition to the collection. Reducing the amount of micromanaging compared to the direct competitors makes this Cold War RTS more accessible. Each NATO - and Warshaw Pact country has a unique selection of units that require a slightly different approach to engagements, while offering the option to subordinate missing capabilities from allied Task Forces to balance out the basic national core. The current array of nations is due to expand by later additions to the game by Microprose and I do hope that these will become available to the GOG version as well. The models and textures are top notch, which makes it a minor point of critique that one is generally too busy directing the battle and thus often lacks the time to appreciate the graphics while zoomed in on the action.
This is a great RTT game that will let you have a experience similar to many games of the genre but is very focused on commanding squads of units instead of single units.
Some notes:

- Many factions of the Cold War era
- More laidback than rival games in the genre
- Multi-phased operations are very immersive
Highly recommended!!!
If you're looking for a challenge, especially at the higher difficulty levels, you can break your teeth here. A good game where the AI doesn't drive only on the roads and can surprise you. Smaller scale than in WARNO, but because of that, you have to manage your forces better and control what is happening on the map.
