There are several references to the narrator's sex life, a description of a porno shoot, descriptions of violence, and dead bodies, among other things. It's all done well (obviously) but but I think it is misleading to suggest the book doesn't contain any mature content or themes. (less)

But Tookie, on an unconscio…moreOn p 136 Tookie tells Jackie that all of her gov't ID uses the name "Tookie." So I do not think Pollux knew her real name. But Tookie, on an unconscious level, knows that her mother named her after Flora. She dimly realizes that Flora must be the person who saved her mother when she was pregnant (p. 137.) That is why she gets so anxious as she gets closer and closer to knowing the sentence that killed Flora. Tookie doesn't want to know that this annoying Wannabe, Flora, saved her mother. Flora cannot live with knowing that her own "Great grandmother" in the photograph was a White sadist who targeted Native women. (less)
