I was assuming he had killed his friend in a car accident, boating accident, something with teeth. Also assumed there would be drinking or drugs involved for the whole "humiliated family". Didn't get that at all. It was an accident, these happen daily unfortunately. (less)

Why did Xavier and Lizbeth expect Shelly Carpenter to show up in Nantucket? Since she did one review in a month and there are million hotels in the world, is not the probability of Carpenter showing up in Hotel Nantucket similar to probability of being hit by a meteorite?

Not improbable because Nantucket is a popular east coast summer destination, & the hotel took her because it had vacancies & was struggling at that time. (less)
