This book is divided into three sections, Greek Poems, Epigrams, and Poems. I read the first four Greek Poems. They were vapid. I read the first four Epigrams. They were asinine. I read the first four Poems. They were crap. Moving on.

Sadly, not good. I was hoping some of the magic of The Magus or The French Lieutenant's Woman would be present - even in embryonic form. It wasn't. Some sense of the basics, but no spark.

As someone who loves poetry, I feel that there was more potential but it just wasn’t achieved. There is a lack of soul that most poets not only acquire but also achieve in their published works. I love reading and this one just didn’t do it for me.

Read these poems 25 years ago and wanted to reread to compare with memory. Seemed better in memory but there are a few really good poems.

The list of accomplished novelists who are good poets is short and does not include John Fowles.
