This is a beautiful story that follows Olive, a young woman who resides at a remote hospital close to the Alaskan tundra, who has an uncanny ability to communicate with the local wildlife, particularly an arctic fox. She's also a supportive mother figure for a young Athabascan child, who is also a resident at the same hospital, and in this role she sets out with both to unravel the mystery of her imaginary friend, as well as the secrets buried in the white wintery world that surrounds them. In doing so she befriends an old trapper who lives an isolated life at the edge of the village and who carries his own secrets and painful past. This was truly a delight and pleasure to read and a beautiful story driven by its characters, those with four paws just as much as those with two feet. I will certainly be reading this again and again, not to mention buying it in proper book format.
