Liar, Liar

Rate this book
Investigative reporter Cleo Morgan believes a successful tabloid needs is the ability to lie. Now that she’s one herself, she’s getting a lot of practice. She’s lying to everyone in her hometown, pretending she still works for a reputable paper. She’s lying to Alec Ramirez, the tabloid’s star reporter. He doesn’t know the high-profile-murder suspect in the story they’re covering is her mother. Or that Cleo is conspiring with her old boyfriend to steal that story out from under him to buy her way back into her old life. Perhaps worst of all, she’s lying to herself that she can leave Alec behind once she’s made everything right.

I received a copy from Hidden Gems; this is my honest review.
-I'm glad both books were together because the first book ends in a great cliffhanger.
-Amusing, endearing, and touching. Mystery, suspense, and lies all over the place and not just from Cleo either. Diverting read for sure.
-The author likes to describe everything to the point of us knowing how the showgirls are dressed, what the buildings or the living room look like, and if someone can hold a poker face or not.
-I was first wary of how much the h would lie and at first I told myself I had to change my mind not to be upset if she went crazy. But after a few chapters I could understand why and sometimes it came as omission instead of a straight lie.
-By 50% in the book, I had a theory of whom it might be; I just didn't have a motive so I held on until the end. I was shocked when Bales sat on Sebastian's chair. An admin doesn't do that.
-#1 LOL: "Seriously?" He looked pointedly at the bags on the bed. "There's something you didn't pack?". #2 LOL: "Annaliese poured a liberal splash (of Jameson Irish) into her coffee." Then said her philosophy was "moderation in all things" She had just taken her pills with the JIW straight from the bottle.
-Since Alec heated up the milk, the coffee should be café con leche caliente instead of café con leche. At the funeral, Bales was sitting down, then she walked in the door.
-The editor and publisher should know there is a copyright on the expression "Heimlich Maneuver", which is now called "Abdominal Thrusts" because no one wants to pay up.
-Editing: Linny/Linnie, flavor de jour/flavor du jour, shad/shade, ala/à la, her/he, thunk/thought, twelve y.o./ten y.o., side to side/back and forth, bathtub/pool, was he/wasn't he, Follies Bergere/The Folies Bergère, tarter/tartar, what are you going?/Where are you going or what are you doing.
-The story is well worth a five stars. The reason why it lost one star was because at the end, Cleo still felt like an entitled Karen. "Didn't he know what she'd given up for him?" Love is not about that at all. She's asking him to be forever indebted to her or something. The thing is that Alec was all in to protect Cleo but Cleo was only thinking about saving herself.

This book was so much fun to read! It was originally two books, but I’m very glad I was able to read them together as a two-part book. Lots of romance, mystery, humor, and wonderful characters in this love story!

Cleo is a “serious” reporter who, for various reasons, finds herself working at a tabloid. Alec has been working at that tabloid paper long enough to know all the tricks, and it’s his job to initiate Cleo into this style of journalism. Before they get too far, though, all heck breaks loose in Vegas, Cleo’s life is spinning out of control, and Alec is hot on the heels of the truth.

In Vegas, Alec and Cleo are investigating a murder while Cleo is desperately trying to keep at least some of her private life private from Alec, who can sniff out a story a mile away and isn’t about to ignore the juicy story sitting right next to him. Everything about this trip hits too close to home for Cleo’s comfort, and she has to re-examine just about everything she believes about herself, her family, and her career. And Alec. Tall, dark, handsome, sexy, swoonworthy, smokin’ hot Alec.

The mystery is intelligently handled, the romance is out-of-the-park hot and heartwarming, the secondary characters are hilarious without being over the top, and the action never stops. It’s a wonderful book that held me spellbound from start to finish. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

This was a new author that I was introduced to by the ARC from Hidden Gems. The story is an interesting take on the murder mystery, when Cleo returns to her hometown of Las Vegas to help her mother who seems connected to a murder. Cleo has recently joined the staff of a tabloid after being a finalist for the Pulitzer prize when she wrote for the Tucson Sun. She goes to Vegas with her new colleague, Alec, who has been assigned to help her get settled at the tabloid. They have good chemistry even if they do not always get along.
This is an interesting murder mystery that takes you behind the scenes of the casinos and showgirls of Vegas. The suspects range from Cleo’s mother, a former showgirl now choreographer to the numerous wives of the victim, Sebastian who owned the casino. There are many colorful characters, and the story keeps you guess as to whodunnit. Also, Cleo is keeping many secrets of her own, and that adds to the way the plot plays out. The relationship between Cleo and Alec, while being hot also grows as they work together and begin to appreciate each other’s talents. My only issue with the story is Cleo’s constant harping on the idea that her new job at the tabloid is embarrassing and a huge step down. It was understandable but I felt it did not have to restated as often.

"She’d gotten nervous about her first day at The Inside Word—a tabloid! God help her, how had she come to this?—and before she knew it, she’d found herself walking out the door of her new apartment dressed in what, in her saner moments, she referred to as her slut suit."

Cleo is an up-and-coming investigative journalist who got her former employer, The Tucson Sun, a nomination for the Pulitzer.  So why is she now accepting a job with The Inside Word, a tabloid?  It's complicated.  In fact, her life has been nothing but.  Her mother is a former Vegas showgirl who is now a choreographer in Vegas which Cleo likes to keep on the down low.  Even her ex-boyfriend Martin Howard Prescott the third didn't know about that side of her life, but now she has sold her soul to the devil and her sign on bonus will be in the bank soon to take care of some debts.  Everything is going as planned...or is it?  She didn't count on having to work with sexy Alec Ramirez with those bedroom eyes and smoldering good looks.

This is a two book set by Susie Quint about an accomplished investigative writer for the Tuscon Sun who has been nominated for a Pulitzer for her expose’ on corruption at the southern border. But things have changed and because she needs some quick money she has signed on with The Word, a “tabloid”! The horror! Cleo Morgan is certain that she has destroyed any credibility she once had along with her career as a serious journalist!
Alec Ramirez, a hot Latino staff member for The Word is completely bowled over by Cleo when she first appears in the office. The two are thrown together so Alec can show her the ropes. But, before they get that done Cleo gets a call that her mom has been arrested for the murder of one of the most powerful men in Vegas! Alec and Cleo are assigned to the story, and away they go!
A fun, suspenseful story of murder, intrigue, and love.
My first by Susie Quint but definitely not my last!

* I won this book on Netgalley for my honest opinion *

This was my first book by Suzie Quint and I am looking forward to the next book, which was included in my eBook. I am super excited about that. Quint definitely keeps you entertained with a wonderful cast of characters.

I've enjoyed reading about Cleo's life so far and enjoy her outlook on life, for the most part. Alec, oh Alec.

Quint has created good chemistry between the two. However, I am never a fan of insta-love, etc - she could have let the two work together more to develop a friendship before throwing them together so quickly. It would have been more believable. At least, in my eyes.

I look forward to the second half of the story.

I received a free ARC from Hidden Gems for the promise of an honest review.

It was cute and quirky. Cleo was a reporter at the Tuscon Sun when she had to help her mother with paying a debt. She left her job to work for The Insiders Word, a tabloid magazine. Cleo is paired up with Alec so she can learn the ways of the tabloid. Their first story together takes place in Vegas - Cleo's mother is arrested for murdering a casino owner. Alec and Cleo set out to uncover the truth.

You will meet a wide range of people. They add to the quirkiness of the story. You will like Alec and Cleo

The title of these books already gives a hint that there are going to be lies, a lot of them, all told with humor, twists and turns, and everything happening like if they were riding a roller coaster. It´s a fun and enjoyable reading that could be shorter as one book overlaps the previous one too much, especially when you read one after the other. Entertaining!
I downloaded a free copy of these books through Hidden Gems and this is my honest opinion.

Liar Liar: The Omnibus by Suzie Quint is Alec and Cleo's story. Cleo is an investigative reporter. She has done well but she recently changed jobs. She now works for a tabloid and isn't too happy about it. She gets paired up with Alec. He is annoying and wants her to lie to get their story. Alec is cocky and he knows what he wants. He knows how to charm his way through any interview and he knows how to charm women as well. They clash as they work together but is there something more to it? Can the two of them learn to see eye to eye? Or will there she continue to keep secrets from him and everyone else? The characters are believable and easy to get to know. I didn't personally relate to any of them but that didn't stop me from getting to "know" them. I enjoyed Liar Liar and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading a good book.

This was a fun book. It was a little bit hard to get into but once I got into it, it was a fun read. I will say that having both parts of this story in one book is nice, however, I would have recommended more editing, as the second half covers a lot of the details in the first half again. That is fine when they are separate books, but when you read it straight through, it gets very redundant. Beyond that, the characters and premise of this book were fun. I was pretty sure that I knew whodunit very early on, so it is a little bit predictable, but it was still fun to go through the whole story. It ended a little bit fast, like Suzie Quint was in a rush to get it done, but the ending is still very satisfying. As for the title, there is so much lying throughout this whole book, it was actually hard to keep track of it all, and there didn't really seem to be a legitimate reason for a lot of it, as far as the story went. It worked out in the end but that was one of my less favorite aspects.

Liar, Liar was a fantastic read. I loved the entire story. I thought that the author did an excellent job writing this book and filling it with romance, drama, conflict, and mystery. I highly recommend this book with all its twist and turns.

Cleo, through a series of circumstances, ends up getting a job at a tabloid. She thinks that a successful writer at a tabloid needs the ability to lie. She absolutely hates lying, and tries to avoid it, but she's somehow caught up in a series of lies that just keep growing as she investigates a murder in her hometown. Will she ever be able to untangle herself from all the lies she keeps telling?
