#1 Lie

Rate this book
Working in Hollywood meant Jessica Dawson was used to lying. As an assistant to one of the biggest agents in town, biting her tongue and spewing out sugarcoated untruths were an almost daily occurrence. But fabricating alternate realities never spilled into her personal life, until three months ago when she told the biggest lie of all. While her dear gran lay on her deathbed, Jessica mentioned she’d met her soul mate. It had been Gran’s last wish to see all her grandkids settled down before she went to see Jesus. And as the only one still single, Jessica didn’t have the heart to disappoint her. No one expected Gran to make a miraculous recovery. Now, Gran was expecting to meet Jessica’s perfect man at her cousin’s wedding, which meant she needed to find a perfect man fast. Hiring a professional was the only solution. Enter Dave Larsson, younger brother to one of Hollywood’s elite. Sexy, funny and just as smoldering hot as his super-famous sibling—he had talent and charm to spare. But most importantly, he was affordable and available. All she needed to do was haul Dave home, have him meet Gran and the family, then shortly after the wedding, “break up” with him. It was either that, or admit to her #1 Lie. Only thing she didn’t plan on was the bigger lie she would need to tell herself when it was time to let him go.

Dave Larsson wanted a lead role with more substance than the stupid commercial Jeremy had offered him. I needed a guy to play the part of boyfriend for a couple of days

And this premise should have guaranteed a 'good ol' fashioned' they were put together in a situation that forced them to acknowledge the reality after pretense!

But somehow, I didnt really feel any of it and it was just an okay read for me after all.

💙❤️💙 LOVE Dave and Jess 💙❤️💙

This was a great rom-com with enough laughs, swooning and heartfelt moments to keep you engaged through the entire story. Poor Jess, she feels pressure from her family to get married and uses some of her talented agent assistant skills to concoct a lie about her wonderful boyfriend. In steps Dave, sex on a stick up and coming actor who agrees to take the leading role acting as her soul mate. Easy peasy, right?!?!

The entire relationship between Dave and Jess started under the pretense of a lie, but the interactions between these two were honest, genuine and real. Underneath it all, they were both good people who simply hadn’t found “the one” to capture their hearts. Nothing was over the top and I couldn’t stop smiling and swooning the entire time I read this. Both Dave and Jess were witty, fun to be with and just all around great people.

I loved Dave and Jess together. They complimented each other so well and the feelings they developed for one another stemmed from true friendship. Let’s not overlook the sexy times between these two, WOW! They were downright hot together, their connection real on every level. There was heart and depth to this story, not just a superficial Hollywood type romance. Dave and Jess were family people, neither forgetting those most important to them. Engaging characters, fun story, laugh out loud banter and great writing make this a 5 star read! If you are looking for smiles, swooning and panty melting goodness, check into #1 Lie by T. Gephart.

This wasn't it for me. Sadly because the blurb got me really excited to read it.

Jessica Dawson committed the ultimate sin. She lied to her dear sweet old Granny on her deathbed. You see, Jessica was the last of the grandkids who was not married or had a significant other. All her granny wanted was for Jessica to find a nice man who would love her unconditionally. Wanting to make her gran happy before she took her last breath, Jess lied through her teeth about the wonderful man she was dating and the whirlwind relationship they had. Who knew her gran would do a complete three sixty and recover. Guess Jesus needed gran to be around for just a while longer. Jess, well, she was surely going to hell for lying. To top it all off, now her gran and the rest of her family want to meet Jess’ new boyfriend while she attends her cousins wedding back home in Louisiana. What is a girl to do in a situation like this? Obviously NOT tell her family she was a liar. That would be a total disaster.

Jess decides to hire a fake boyfriend, one who is a great actor and pull off the part. Who better to ask than a real actor, Dave Larsson. They got along well and Dave was always nice to her, not like some actors she worked with as an assistant to one of the top agents in town. Plus dave was super hot and would make the perfect arm candy. It’s not like she ever thought of licking said arm candy. Okay maybe she had! So what?! This was going to be strictly professional. What could possibly go wrong?

Jessica is such a fantastic heroine. She is smart, witty, and so full of life and laughter. She loves her family dearly and does not want to disappoint them which leads her to her current predicament asking Dave to be her fake boyfriend for a family wedding. You just can’t help loving Jessica right from the start. She is such a disaster, but in a good way..mostly poking fun at herself and the situations she gets herself into. As much as she didn’t want to admit how much she likes Dave, she has a hard time trying to keep their little set up professional. Dave on the other hand is just swoon worthy. The perfect book boyfriend any woman would want. He is down to earth and a straight up nice guy for being an actor. He has family values and is genuinely a great guy. The connection between Jessica and Dave is off the charts, hot and steamy. They compliment each other in so many ways which makes them even more perfect for each other.

Jessica’s family is boisterous and full of Southern charm and it was really nice to see how well Dave fit right in with her family. OMG! Granny Shelly was a riot. At 80 something yrs old she was not afraid to speak her mind or ask to see some skin...Dave’s naked chest that is! The best scene ever! I loved Jessica’s family and want them as my family. I am wondering if I could be adopted!

#1 Lie by T. Gephart is a laugh out loud Rom-Com that will leave you in stitches. The one liners thrown around on almost every single page had my dying! I could not stop myself from reading all the way through in one sitting. I pretty much ignored everyone for a few hours because I could not put this book down. The story was engaging with some of the best characters in any book I have ever read. #1 Lie is definitely a five plus star read! Although, this is my first read by T. Gephart, it certainly will not be my last.

I so loved Dave Larssen. I think he was some what to blame in the failure to communicate but otherwise he was perfect book boyfriend for a fairly controling woman.

"...sex appeal was so deeply ingrained in his double helix, it was as much a part of him as those gorgeous chocolate-colored eyes."

Well, well, well ... wasn't it nice to meet another Larsson brother? Thank you Tina, for giving us Dave and Jessica. Their story really had to be told. It's full of fun and wit and I really enjoyed reading it!

"It was a rare man who could be just as sexy on paper as he was in person, but Dave Larsson was a freaking unicorn."

Dave, as one of four Larsson brothers, coming form a gene pool the woman's world thanks god for. He's one of those guys a girl dreams about meeting. Kind, funny, caring, gorgeous, HOT. A guy you can steal horses with. It was easy to fall for him, and I don't blame Jessica for doing so.

"I wasn't sure what had been the bigger lie. That I'd convinced myself we were pretending. Or that I was capable of letting him go."

Jessica was also a fun character. The love for her family, specially her granny, is just so lovely. Sometimes it's easier to tell the truth than keeping up a lie. That's what got her in trouble in the first place. But this was just the right amount of trouble to see what was right in front of her nose over the last years. She's also an easy to love heroine and it was fun reading her story.

"I wanted you by my side because that's the way it's meant to be. It was always supposed to be us."

#1 Lie is a nice lovestory full of wit and heartwarming fun. It will make you smile a lot and it's totally worth the read.

#1 Lie is a fabulously fun read! The story captured my attention right away, as did the heroine Jessica, who drew me into her life and problems from the first page. I really enjoyed the build of Jess and Dave relationship. Everything is fun and easy at the start, then the tension and pressure progressively builds. Jessica is a strong female lead, my favourite kind, who is quick witted, tough and committed to her job and family.

This book is written in first person from Jess's POV. I usually prefer a dual perspective, as I find it easier to connect with both leads. Although I would have loved to get into Dave's head, I understand the author's reasoning for avoiding this. The frustration of not knowing what Dave was thinking made me empathize with Jessica. I still found I could get an understanding of his character through the extensive dialogue and his actions. Dave is caring and kind, yet won't be pushed over by Jess's usual dominance.

Ms Gepharts writing is authentic and interesting. Each moment is made to be humorous or emotional. The humor tapers off towards the end as the emotion climaxes, but there are never any lags in the pace of the story. As with all the books in this series, the comedy aspect of this rom-com is without a doubt laugh out loud, OMG this is hilarious, kind of funny.

#1 Lie is my favourite romantic comedy read of the year. The strong story, emotional elements and hilarity make Jess and Dave's story a must read for all fans of this genre.

I am already a huge fangirl of this author and her stories but this one, #1 Lie, is officially my new favourite from her. I absolutely LOVED it!!!

It's the perfect kind of rom-com read. The story that has you smiling like a crazy person, tummy butterflies from the swoony male lead and messaging your friends with favourite quotes because you have to share the laughs around.

Dave and Jess are two of my favourite characters - ever. Not just from this author, but from anyone. Dave is the perfect BBF - funny, kind and seriously hot and Jess is my favourite kind of heroine - she's smart, witty and doesn't understand just how amazing she is. Add in a great group of supporting characters and you have the kind of rich story I adore.

Definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a laugh with some feels on the side.

I received an arc of this book.

This was my very first T. Gephart read, and she did me right, she will be in my TBR rotation. If you don’t like a great Rom-Com, you have no sense of humor, you don’t like some crazy antics and you don’t like sexiness mixed in, than this book is not for you and we can never be friends….IJS.

The whole premise of Jessica telling her dying grandma about her fictitious boyfriend on her death bed, only to have said grandma not kick the bucket. Now, Jessica must make this awesome boyfriend appear, so let the lying continue….enter the paid boyfriend, a super hot, and completely amazing brother to a Hollywood star. Can they both walk away unscathed? Read to find out, you will not be disappointed.-Review by Catherine(Catty)

#1 Lie is so much fun! The story is funny and sexy but also goes deeper with a storyline that will tie your emotions up into knots!

When she thought her grandmother was dying, Jessica Dawson tells one small fib. But after Gran pulls through that small fabrication leads to her hiring actor Dave Larsson to play her boyfriend at a family wedding.

“I should probably look into some kind of meetings for Dishonesty Anonymous; the lies I’d told recently far outweighing the truth.”

Super sweet and sexy Dave really turns the heat up and Jessica finds that he might be bigger than the part she hired him to play.

“His mouth was magic, able to dissolve panic and educe calmness with a single press of his lips. Like kryptonite but in reverse.
Maybe we should do that again?
Purely for research purposes.
Science was important and I’d happily give my lips up for the cause. That I might enjoy it, well . . . that was just a bonus.”

Jessica is such a sassy, quirky heroine, she completely stole my heart. I loved the fun and flirty banter throughout!
#1 Lie is part of the #1 series but they can all be read as standalones.

4 nose-growing stars for #1 LIE!

One little lie. Just an itsy bitsy, teenie weenie little lie to her gran, and Jessica Dawson is screwed. When gran was on her death bed, Jess confirmed that she had a man so gran would be able to leave knowing her babies were happy. But gran recovered, and now Jess has a wedding to attend…with a plus one. As the assistant to an LA talent agent, a plot is hatched to take one of her agency's actors, Dave Larsson. Dave is sick of getting dog food commercials, but pretending to be Jess's boyfriend isn't exactly a hardship. Jess is thrilled when he agrees…she genuinely enjoys his company, and damn, the man isn't tough to look at! But she bit off more than she could chew when they start spending time together, because he's everything she never knew she wanted in a man. Fooling her family won't be hard, it's not fooling herself that might prove the most challenging.

#1 LIE was so much fun! While the story (play pretend boyfriend/girlfriend for the sake of a family affair) wasn't new, I totally enjoyed Ms. Gephart's take on the sitch. Dave was absolutely fabulous…what a sweet, flirty, sexy dude that one was (I was completely picturing one of the yummy Hemsworth brothers the entire time)! Jess, the little liar, amused and frustrated me. She could've easily ended the charade a dozen different ways, but just kept digging deeper instead. For as smart as she kept saying she was? Girlfriend lost the common sense raffle in the gray matter lottery. I did adore them together however, no matter how stupid Jess's life choices were, and the sex scenes, while few, were well written and lip bitingly delicious. But her family? Loved. Them! They might've been the best part of #1 LIE, with their wacky attitudes and gossipy personas. Overall, book 4 in the #1 series was a lighthearted and funny read that I recommend to anyone who loves sexy romcom stories!

Bottom Line: No OM/OW or sharing; condom use; no BDSM/kink; no sexual assault; no violence/murder.

#1Lie is a fun, flirty and hilarious novel that is the fourth instalment in the #1 series.
Jessica being an assistant to one of Hollywood’s biggest agents in town is used to lying. She’s used to helping actors take up roles that they might not really want, while being damn good at her job. Pity her own love life isn’t as successful.

A few months ago, when her grandmother was on her deathbed, knowing that she wanted to see all her grandchildren settled, Jessica told her grandmother something that she swore she’d never do. Lie. “One of the biggest sins there is” according to her family. The lie she told, was that she’d promised she’d found her soulmate and was happy. Astonishingly, her family didn’t expect her gran to recover miraculously from her illness either. Keeping her lie well and truly alive. So, when an invitation to her cousin’s wedding arrives with a “plus one,” Jess has to scramble to find somebody to temporarily fill the role. “I knew there was no getting out of it. All I’d really done was successfully stall her for a few seconds, hoping that in that time I’d come up with something good.”
Enter Dave Larsson. One of Hollywood’s Elite and another of the delicious Larsson brothers, who happens to also be their client. They’re friends and even though he is hot to trot, she’s never crossed that line. Time is working against Jess, so she takes it upon herself to offer him a new, “role” an “indecent proposal” that she hopes he’ll take pity on her and do it.

“The job is you helping me fool my family into thinking we’re a couple. Attend the wedding. Break my heart. End scene. You’ll get paid for it.”
“So, it’s a T.V series?”
“No.”
“A play?”
“Not that either.”
“It’s more a real-life drama.”

Dave, who’s tired of lead roles in dog commercials, is curious to this new role and when Jess confesses to it being for her, he does take pity on her. He agrees on the condition that she attend an Jimmy Ferrara’s exhibition with him and moreso, to help mingle so he can meet the biggest directors in Hollywood. It’s a win-win, “tit for tat.”

The façade begins easily enough. Jess and Dave spend time together, getting to know things about each other until intimacy is discussed and Jess gets unnerved, especially as the touch of his hand feels better than she thought it would. Dave has to remind her that she can’t “get weird if I try to touch you.” As much as Jess tries to reassure him that she’ll be fine, her struggles are evident. “I was positive if ever I did cave, it would only mean trouble. And not just for my job, by for my hormones as well.”

But all bets are off when the tension is reciprocated.

#1 Lie has been my favourite in the series so far. The rapport between Jess and Dave is sizzling. This is written from Jess’ perspective and while we want to know what Dave is feeling,( in particular when Jess is confused by his actions), we don’t need to see dual point of view as Gephart shows us how he is, with her writing. I loved this book! It was worth the sleepless night! While retracing the pages to find the quotes I was looking for, I couldn’t help but start to re read it. It is that addictive.
An amazing read! Keep ‘em coming!

The whole fake dating thing has got to be old, unoriginal, 100% cliched and sooooo high school.

But leave it to T. Gephart to put her magic twist in the otherwise unimaginative plotline and you ended up with Dave & Jess and a whole lot of OBSESSION.

YES. I'm literally DYING of laughter, embarrassment (the things Jess did) and so MUCH LOVE.

The #1 series just keeps getting better (and hotter covers too!) that you just can't help but look forward to the next book. Dave & Jess were brilliant in this book, I loved reading about the slow burn romance and the developing chemistry, and most of all I just loved how they cut through the bullsh*t without the extra drama (wherein lies the cliche, in my opinion) and just have such great relationship with one another.

Sure it was angsty & emotional at times, but it was everything I expected from the author and so much more.

Eric was my favorite Larsson, and then Dave strode in and stole the lead. These boys just kept getting better and better!

P.S. Special shout out to the secondary characters (particularly Jess' Greek-like family), they made this story come to life.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of the book generously provided by the author.

This book was absolutely adorable. Dorky premise that I’m trash for, fake dating will always be a sign me up trope. Jessica was neurotic but sweet and Dave was just the right mix of broody and adorable. I appreciated them as a couple and as individuals though Jessica as my name sake I probably forgave more for her dumb decisions lol.

Another T Gephart book that I thoroughly enjoyed

The Lie is funny, steamy has lots of laugh out loud moments and those awkward family moments. Loved it!.

Dave is such a hot laid back kind of guy you can't help but love him as he helps Jessica out of a pickle with her family, by using his acting skills when he becomes her boyfriend for the weekend.

It's not original but it is a fun read that leads to a heartwarming hea.

I listened to this in audio and found the narrating fabulous, the narration really bringing the characters to life and represents them well.

Looking forward to more from the Larsson brothers.

Loved the audio in this book.

T Gephart is one of my favorite writers of romantic comedy, and #1 Lie is another example of why I love her books so much. It’s a fun and sexy romance full of hilarious, flirty banter and with a swoon-worthy hero and a best-friend-worthy heroine. Dave is an up-and-coming actor, so he feels like the perfect choice to play Jessica’s pretend boyfriend at her cousin’s wedding in Louisiana, but she never dreamed that she might want more from their temporary relationship. There’s no denying that they have insane chemistry, and Dave is downright irresistible. Jessica’s endearing Southern family adds to the laughs and charm. #1 Lie is a superbly feel-good, highly entertaining experience.

Cutie-pie story! Jessica is awesome at her job working for that "heathen" Jeremy. Jessica basically lies to everyone, for her boss, and puts out all of the fires he starts. So it is not at all surprising that she begins her relationship with super hot actor, Dave, with yet another lie. Unfortunately, her lack of veracity will cost Jessica big time!

Only now I've been introduced to this series!!!
I loved the narrative of the author (in person first) under POV of Jessica, a girl from Louisiana, who makes a career as an assistant to Jeremy Levin, one of the biggest actors agents in Hollywood.
Jessica worked hard, 24/7, anticipating every desire and solving her boss's problems.
But since Jess sending her resume to this job, she went on to have a serious mania: to tell "white lies".

These lies were taking stratospheric proportions, to the point one of them could hurt her family: Jess had lied, to appease the concern of her big and loving family, that she had found The One.

Her grandmother's health was very fragile, and since Jess and her grandmother were very connected - they talked to each other weekly - Jess had no problem in telling this little lie.
But now her cousin Lana was getting married. Jess received the wedding invitation and was supposed to bring the mysterious boyfriend. But who would that be??

Dave Larsson was the brother of the superstar Eric Larsson. Eric was part of Hollywood's elite, and Jeremy's client.
Dave was looking for the great role of his life, he was tired of starring commercials. Jeremy also represented Dave, but he paid more attention to Eric since this one made the agent earn more money.

Suddenly, Dave is included in Jess's familiar mess, and she asks him to help her by pretending to be her boyfriend.
The confusion begins even before the couple travel to Louisiana!
And they are many and hilarious, so that, in the end, they realize that they feel a real attraction for each other.

But Dave was still in search of his place as an actor, and Jess did not want the complications and demands from a relationship.

Which one would take the first step and admit that what began as a pretense had become a real feeling?

This is the 4th book in the series, which can be read as a stand alone. But for sure now I'll read the previous books.

This is my first book by T. Gephart and I am absolutely delighted with her style of writing, I loved her characters. This contemporary light-hearted romance can be read as a standalone although it is part of the #1 Series featuring the Larsson brothers.

Dave is one of five Larsson brothers all of them equally blessed with good looks and have successful careers. He is an upcoming actor and although not as famous as the other brothers, he is on his way to becoming one with Jessica’s help.

Jessica works for Jeremy, Dave’s agent in Hollywood. A hard-working assistant who knows the ins and outs of the business, she knows the Larsson brothers and her interactions with Dave were always business related until a sticky situation comes up and she needed someone to pretend as her boyfriend to come along to a family wedding. When he offers to help her out and make a deal, it should be okay shouldn’t it and hope her family never finds out, right?

I must say that I adore the characters in this book. The author created a storyline that although it has been done so many times, this one gives you a different feel. This is a very entertaining story with great characters: a good-looking hero with an enormous heart amongst other things, and a strong and funny heroine with epic one-liners.

“I’m not trying to slut shame. I’m just saying don’t be preaching abstinence on Sunday and doing anal on Monday.”

Told in Jessica’s point of view, this contemporary romance is a lot of fun to read from page one. The chemistry between Jessica and Dave are off the charts it could set fire to your heart and knickers. If you are in a book funk and needed something light, this is the one to read!

T. Gephart has found her calling in romance and while I've been a fan some of her other amazing books, this series and this subgenre in romance is just her thing. The #1 Series has been so so so good y'all... a top ten of all time series for me for sure. Each book is unique. Each book is so fresh and so funny. Each book is completely unforgettable with characters that make you fall hard.

#1 Lie is the fourth standalone in this series and damn was it a fun, sweet, sexy, laugh out loud romantic comedy that was packed with a ton of emotions and a few punches to the heart. Dave and Jessica were brilliant together and the path they took, very unconventional in some ways but so them in every way there was.

What could go wrong with hiring a irresistible hard on his luck and super attracted to actor to be your pretend boyfriend at a wedding all to get your family off your back? Simple...everything. And when things start to go from pretend to real in a matter of undeniably intense moments, you have to decide to take a chance or forget it all together. It might be a little bumpy at times but it's gonna be a whole lot of fun.

Dave and Jessica are in for a complicated, passionate, captivating, and hilarious journey to one perfectly timed happy ending.

I'm telling you... the laughs are plentiful and the love is so real.

I received an ARC in exchange of an honest review.

My review: https://www.facebook.com/books4girls/...

First of all, I would like to thank Tina Gephart and the InkSlinger PR team for this ARC.

In #1 Lie, we meet Dave Larsson, the younger brother of Eric (#1 Crush), who is also an actor, and Jessica, the PA of Dave’s agent.

Jess find herself struck in a lie she invented as she thought that her grandmother was dying. Bad luck because Granny is better, and Jess has to find the perfect boyfriend for her cousin’s wedding.

After going through solutions, she decides to hire Dave to play Mr Perfect. But thing doesn’t go as planned…

The subject of the fake boyfriend has been treated many times in romance, yet I enjoyed discovering this one. It must be said that humor is present from the beginning to the end and the characters are very endearing.

The author always takes care of her secondary characters and it allow us not to stay locked up with the main couple.

In brief, a real romantic comedy with a subject far from unpublished, but which stands out with her endearing characters, humor and funny situations!

4.5 Stars ~ Reviewed by Anna Green on behalf of KFF

#1 Lie is such a fun read! Although, this is she the 4th book in the series this story can be read 100% as a standalone! It was a witty and fun loving story that I simply adored!

Jessica is southern and completely relate-able for me. I loved how the southern was played just right, not over the top as it often happens. I understood Jess on an elemental level, wanting to please your family so much that you will tell them what they want to hear and then do whatever it takes for them to never find out that you lied. Even if you did have the best of intentions.

Dave is an actor known for his shirtless dog food commercials and is a client of Jessica's boss. He's humble, kind and polite and I fell head over heels in love him. I loved the way he always respected Jess and her family.

Jess and Dave are both from large families and meshed well together. #1 Lie is such a humorous fun read and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!

4.5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This series keeps getting better and better!! #1 Lie is a funny, sexy and emotional roller coaster 💜 Dave and Jess are just the cutest and definitely set off some fireworks that key the pages smoking hot!

Dave Larsson is quite the teddy bear dream boat. Jess hires him to be her fake boyfriend when she has to return home for a family wedding. Things start really heating up when they both realize their friendship isn’t as business oriented as they originally thought.

T. Gephart #1 Series is a favorite amongst all rom coms. There’s a fun, effortless quality to her writing that allows the reader to escape into another world for a few hours. Definitely one of the best summer reads I’ve had the pleasure of reading so far. Another fantastic must reads on my list!!

Her heart was in the right place, but she must have lost her mind. #1 Lie is a #1 MUST HAVE! Gephart turns heartache into laughter and love, in an over the top, hard to resist sort of way. With what she believed to be a little white lie Jess sealed her fate. When the circumstances change Jess is in for a rude awakening and just maybe the love of a lifetime. Get ready to fall in love with a little white lie and an ENCHANTING romance.
