...thought this was the/a kindle version....that's what i read....fwiw
This is a fun short piece. The story sounds like it was written yesterday, more so w/the dollar amounts give by mr. hiram scribe for the demolition of the chimney. This old buck is the narrator, describing his chimney…then you find out he has a wife…her maxim: (and this is one reason why it sounds modern)…her maxim again: whatever is, is wrong; and what is more, must be altered; and what is still more, must be altered right away……ha ha ha ha ha! I don’t know how many people I’ve worked for, couples, and often, that is the wife’s maxim. Once in awhile, I work for a couple and the man is like that. (all in all, everyone is pretty understanding--I’m a carpenter, not a mason…)
Yeah, so this old buck is best buddies w/the chimney, the wife wants it gone, or a hallway punched through it….and that’s another thing….ha ha ha ha ha ha!….the number of times I’ve tried to keep a straight face when a potential customer suggests a remodel project. Usually, there’s a way to do most things….I dunno, you ever hear of the Winchester house?….
Honestly, I didn’t know this story existed until goodreads….say true….very funny story. Well worth a read. Quick and painless.
