There is a gaping hole in the middle of Lonna's memories of the worst night of her life. Her body told her how it ended, but the details leading up to her lying hurt and sobbing on the bathroom floor have been lost.
How do you move forward when you’re not sure what you have to move on from?
How do you get your life back on track when you don’t know what happened to send it off the rails?
She makes a connection in the unlikeliest of places. Their bond is immediate—their pain similar and, at the same time, vastly different. As they work independently to recover from invisible wounds they are not ready to share with each other, they find their path to healing may leave a fiery trail across the landscape of what used to be their lives.

Traveling the world and watching the sun set in every time zone sounds like heaven to her. A true Gemini, she follows her heart blindly and lives life to the fullest with her husband, son, and friends. 'BLACKOUT:' Is a full length romance novel by new to me author Olivia Evans.
This is another book that's been popping up on my news feed on IG and FB, one look at the ratings and I was off one clicking on Amazon!
Oh wow! I’m sitting here at a loss for words, this book was truly amazing, beautifully written, and even though the subject matter was heartbreaking this author touched it so sensitively. What a turbulent story, my emotions were all over the place, like the heroine, one minute I was high the next I’d reached a low with a twist that blindsided me. But in the end she wrapped it up perfectly! This couple met in such a unique unorthodox way which pulled me into the story even more. I was hooked from start to finish and it most definitely won't be the last book I'll read by this author.
There's nothing I would change about this book, it was utterly perfect.
Lonna is trying to make sense of her world after a tragic incident which she can't recall changed her life in a blink of an eye, she went from celebrating to one of despair, which is affecting every aspect of her life. No matter how hard she tries to recall her memories of that night nothing comes to her. After getting sent home from work by her boss she stumbles around for hours with no destination in mind when her stomach screamed to be fed that she came across Lucky's dinner that sold the most delicious cakes to die for. Apon leaving she noticed people gathering outside an old building across the road, the owner of the diner mentioned that they have different support groups over there. And it just so happens that wednesdays and Sundays are sexual assault meetings, which Lonna took as a sign.
“You make me feel safe, you give me hope, you're my light in the dark. ”
It's here that Lonna meets Gavin, she doesn't know his story but she feels some kind of pull towards him. Slowly they heal, slowly they fall in love, but something comes to light and breaks them down the middle. Both are left floundering, right back to where they had begun, living in the darkness.
“Lonna, my life has been a mess for a while now. I've done my best to keep my shit together, but it's not always easy. I have a lot of demons and self-doubt, and it's not something I can always fight off. But since I met you, it's been easier.”
Now I need to find my own ‘Lucky’s’ because I’m craving cake!
This is the story of Lonna, who was sexually assaulted but does not remember what exactly happened that night. It's been months since, but she still can't talk about it and she can't get over what she went through. 😭 She doesn't sleep or function at work... and even though there are people in her life who love and care for her, her two roommates, Krista and Ethan, it's not enough... 💔 Then one day, in the most unexpected place, Lonna meets Gavin - and her life changes. Gavin also faces demons of his own, and although they are unwilling to share what they've been through - they find a way to heal each other... until everything blows up in their faces! 💥 What really happened that night? And what's Gavin's story? 😱
I enjoyed this book... it's about an important, difficult and very relevant topic. To be honest, I guessed the twist from the beginning - but I was totally surprised! 👏 However, towards the middle of the book, there were parts that bored me, so even though the book is not long (234 pages) I found myself skipping to get to the end... 😬 It is a story about survival, love, heartache and hope. ❤
‘Something bad happened, but try as I might, I couldn’t pull the memories to the surface. A concrete block of shame and regret settled over my chest and tears rolled down my cheeks. The memories were gone, but the blackout of the night before brought me no comfort.’
Blackout by Olivia Evans had a sombre tone with layers of complex human emotion. In the face of the #metoo campaign, this story is so relevant and important. We do not always know the face of the one who hurt us which intensifies the psychological trauma and fear of the unknown. Wanting to prevent further unbearable pain, barriers are built to keep the necessary distance. Daily tasks are on autopilot and isolation becomes a defence mechanism. The black of the dark becomes what haunts as well as the hiding place of comfort.
“We all have dark places, honey. We just have to be smart enough to recognize the power of the stars. Find your star, darkness doesn’t stand a chance against that kind of light.”
This story is so well written; it captures the devastation, the confusion and the utter fear and heartbreak that walks hand in hand when a horrific event occurs, robbing you of all control and self-confidence. It depicts the tiny flayed threads which we cling onto in order to subconsciously still feel tethered to life, to normality.
‘I don’t know how they get out of bed in the morning. I don’t know how they can live with that kind of pain.’
“We’re more than a hashtag.”
Lonna is existing but in a black hole of uncertainty and darkness. Relationships do not exist with zero risks of being hurt, yet taking a chance on forming bonds with strangers, she unknowingly embarks on a journey of healing, support and reckoning. However, until the faceless man is unmasked and the fear of the unknown is truly gone, trust and living are off the table. It’s emotionally and physically draining being another statistic in life. Unable to share her secret, she finds relief in listening, helping and supporting those around her whilst her own walls are closing in on her, robbing her of light.
“I feel like I know everything and absolutely nothing about him. I want him to tell me what happened for him to end up at our meetings, but I’m not willing to tell him my story. I’m a hypocrite.”
Gavin is keeping secrets. A man in a sea of women with one thing in common, he is drawn to Lonna, as Lonna is drawn to him. Both are walking the line between personal breakdown and survival. Yet an immediate bond is formed and in each other, they find a companion on the long road of healing. We felt everything Olivia Evans intended us to feel. And whilst we saw the main twist coming, it was still the emotional revelation which we needed and we felt the double-sided edge of closure, alongside Lonna.
“I don’t want to remember you as the girl who broke my heart.”
“I have no intention of being the girl who broke your heart. If I’m being honest, I want to be the exact opposite. I want to be the girl who stole it.”
Blackout was another phenomenal Olivia Evans story. It was emotional and gripping and so raw. I loved Lonna's strength and perseverance to find out the truth. I loved her connection to Gavin and how guarded they both were until they decided to trust in one another. This story made me hope and weep alike as it was so intense. I loved this powerful journey!
What I loved more than anything was how Lonna and Gavin connected. This story was full of painful revelations and I was riveted from the very beginning. Bravo! 4.5 stars! ~Ratula

I knew this book was going to be tough to read going into it, but I also knew this was a book I had to read and I was going to love. And I did….I LOVED this book. I was totally captivated by these characters and the story they all had to tell.
This book was thought provoking, emotional, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all in one. This is a storyline that we have seen before, but Olivia created something special with this book and made it all her own.
I will give 1 warning to readers and that is if sexual assault is something that would be trigger in a story, then this book might not be one to read. Although Olivia did an excellent job writing and telling this story, nothing is overly graphic, but there still could be things that could trigger some readers. Just pick this one up with caution.
Blackout is a standalone novel told solely from Lonna’s POV. It is based on a tough subject matter, but was so eloquently written. Olivia made this story real and raw. I thought the struggles and regret and growth that Lonna goes through in this book was so believable. I thought the flow and pace of this story was spot on!!
In this book we follow the journey of Lonna. Several months ago Lonna suffered an assault that she can’t remember. So filled with regret and pain, she is determined to find out what happened that fateful night and who was to blame. But she is also on a journey to getting her life back. One day on her way home she stumbles on a diner and a building that offers meetings….little did she know that walk home would change her life for the better. While going to these meetings, she finds an unlikely ally is Gavin. Gavin is also suffer his own guilt and is harboring a secret, but is he willing to let Lonna in and tell his truth?? Will she still feel the same way about him?? What happens when Lonna’s life comes crashing down around her again?? Can these two find their way to a HEA?? Read this book to find out.
I LOVED the secondary characters in this book. Krista, Bat, Pearl, Bill and Brett were all amazing people. They were such a support system for Lonna and eventually Gavin as well. I know I wouldn’t mind getting a book about Bat or Krista….I think those ladies would have amazing stories as well.
I would 100% recommend this book. As I have said before, I don’t think my review can do this story justice. So just take my word for it and READ this book. You won’t be sorry!!!
So many emotions: heartbreak, anger, Hope and love. When an author can evoke all those emotions from one book, that is a sign of an author who can bring her characters/ story to life. Ms. Evans accomplished this and then some.
Blackout is a very thought-provoking that is so relevant in today's world, especially with the #metoo movement. I cannot say enough about this book but I will do my best to not give anything away.
This story will definitely hit home for a lot of us and for many, it will be extremely eye-opening. It is raw, real and told so very well. Olivia really brings her A game with this story.
Lonna is trying to move forward after a horrific event in her life that she can't fully remember. As a reader, you will easily feel every single one of her emotions and that battles she goes through on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Gavin and Lonna meet under very stressful circumstances. However, neither truly understood what they would get from one another. Gavin too has his secrets and they both must overcome their own burdens in order to fully move forward. But once those secrets are out, they can't be ignored.
Olivia truly knows how to deliver a poignant yet emotional story that will stay with readers long after they finish it. She captures so many feelings in this book that you will feel like you are walking in Lonna's shoes. This book is one that everyone should read - I can't recommend this book enough.
It may only be early March, but Blackout is definitely a top 5 fave in 2020 for me!!
Man, this was an emotional ride. From start to finish, I was pulled in to Lonna's tragic story of what happened the night she blacked out and found out she'd been raped. She suffered nightmares each night but it's blurry in the parts that are most important. Figuring it out is a task she struggles with, but a few amazing supporters by her side, she eventually learns the truth. And it was a fucked up revelation for sure.
I absolutely loved Gavin. What a perfect man he'd been!! From their first interaction, he and Lonna had me rooting for them. These two got me out of my funk and I was glued to their story, as heartbreaking as it was at times. I definitely recommend this book to the angst lovers!! It's worth all the tears!!
Blackout is superb. Olivia Evans created a story-line that is not only thought-provoking but incredibly moving as well. She takes a timely subject matter and gives it the proper kind of attention. With Lonna full of shame and deep regret for her actions one night many months ago, this book is a testament to her strength and determination to finally figure out just what happened and with whom. Evans beautifully combines Lonna's journey together with a sweet romance with the equally suffering Gavin, who gives her the chance to feel whole again.
These two broken souls have the kind of connection that is delicate yet has a crazy kind of strength by just being there for the other. The darkness both Lonna and Gavin live with is suddenly brighter as they get closer and truths are eventually laid bare. The unease I felt with not knowing their complete stories was wonderfully tempered with not only the pace of this book and the burgeoning closeness between Lonna and Gavin, but with the endearing support system in place provided by exceptional secondary characters.
I have to make mention of Pearl, the woman with the big heart and soothing desserts, who becomes a second mother to Lonna and is the lifeline she needs when panic and indecision take hold. I loved this woman fierce and she is truly a needed constant when everything spins a bit out of control. There is also Lonna's bestie in Krista who manages to say what is needed even when it's hard to listen. With the late addition of Bat, the sisterhood is strong and is just what our girl needs to stay on track and conquer her demons once and for all.
The angst has a subtle buildup and the last 25 percent or so is filled with a myriad of emotions as Lonna and Gavin grab tight to the tether that binds them even when it is threatened to snap at any given moment. Revelations are almost to hard to fathom but with her stellar writing skills, Evans makes sure you are right there with them, cheering them on and hoping for some semblance of peace. There is no belittling of their attempts to keep their feelings at bay nor is there any over the top and/or immature reaction to what transpires. It is all laid out perfectly, with this creation of a situation that is all too real. Looking away was just never an option for me.
Blackout has this glorious kind of rhythm that I have come to adore with the Author's work. With characters who are addictive and a story that is full of hope, redemption and the sweetest kind of love, I can't recommend this book highly enough. You will fall hard for Lonna and Gavin and the emotional adventure they endure with plenty of smiles to go around just when it is needed the most. Which in my opinion is the mark of a true wordsmith.
Blackout was the first book by Olivia Evans that I've read. I wasn't sure what to expect as I did not read the synopsis prior to reading the story. I was sorely absorbed in the story and had no issues connecting with the main character, Lonna, as well as the feelings she evoked in me with how she dealt with her circumstances. I highly recommend going in blind when reading this story, as the journey from beginning to end is EPIC.
Blackout by Olivia Evans will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!
There are no words how incredible this book is. Olivia Evans writes about a subject that is so sensitive in nature but her words will have you understanding that each persons story is their own and how they deal with it is beyond strength. We meet Lonna she is a young woman struggling with what has happened to her and the support of her friends and family might not be enough but when she comes upon a support group she finds just what she needs. She will meet people that will understand in a way that she needs, but when she meets Gavin there is just a something about him that makes her feel almost like herself again. We will watch Lonna struggle along the way and question herself on so many things but you will also see that the inner strength she has and can’t help admire her. As I was reading this book you can’t help all the different emotions you feel for Lonna, there is sadness, anger, love but most of all strength and when you see the words The End you not only say way to go Lonna you say bravo Olivia because your words were amazing.
Blackout is a riveting and emotional story of pain, shame and depression. After having been assaulted at her graduation party, Lonna has no memory of her assailant nor any related details. She is getting by with the help of her roommate friends and desperately seeks answers as to how and why it happened to her.
One day when walking and held deep in thought and despair she finds herself, by chance, in an area of town she’s never been. There she encounters a support group where she meets Gavin. So much transpires over time and as they find themselves growing closer she confides in Gavin and things begin to spiral into an unexpected and and even more angst filled experience than anyone anticipated.
This was my first book by Olivia Evans and I have to say I was riveted and spellbound by such a relevant, heart breaking yet amazing story! Brilliantly thought out and written, I look forward to reading more by this author!
4.5 Holy shit! This story is unlike any I've read before.
What's better - the devil you know or the one you don't?
Evans had me holding my breath through each chapter because I kept waiting for the monster to show his face. I was apprehensive because as I'm reading, I'm also playing detective and I didn't like where the clues were leading me. This book had me so apprehensive its not even funny.
This book is full of potential triggers. If this affects you, this is one that you may want to steer away from. If that's not an issue, then you NEED to read this!
In BLACKOUT Olivia Evans writes about a sensitive subject, but does it with a touch like no other. Lonna and Gavin's journey is raw and emotional, you're going to feel ALL THE FEELS. BLACKOUT is full of pain and beauty, its going to break you, but will put back together by the end.
Wow what an emotionally amazing story. I couldn't put it down!!! The characters and plot are written as if you right there beside them going through everything with them. This raw and detailed story will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. I could go on and on about it but I don't want to ruin a second of the journey you'll go on... ...So all I'll say is one click immediately you won't regret it. This book will stick with you for years to come.
So many emotions: heartbreak, anger, Hope and love. When an author can evoke all those emotions from one book, that is a sign of an author who can bring her characters/ story to life. Ms. Evans accomplished this and then some.
Blackout is a tender hearted must read that as with many woman, will ultimately touch close to home. #metoo. This is a story that'll without a doubt break your, melt it, and then slowly mend it back together. After reading such an emotionally charged book, I'm inspired and happy to have experienced it. Thank you Olivia for penning and bringing us such a heart felt story.
Blackout by Olivia Evans is an extremely inspiring and riveting story. The writing is honest and raw. It brings out all the ugly, heartbreaking and aching emotions in me.
Lonna was raped at night of her graduation. But she was drunk and wad drugged. So she does not remember the face or details of the event. She cannot get closure and the trauma is eating her inside out. Her best friend Krista and his cousin Ethan ( also her roommates) are trying their best to support her. But she feels trapped in a never ending nightmare. Till she accidentally finds Lucky's diner and the dilapidated building opposite it running support groups. Till she meets Gavin Lewis. The guy who slowly erases her pain, shame and depression with softness, compassion and patience. But one day a big secret comes out. Something that will break her all over again. Does she not deserve HEA?
Olivia Evans poured out so much sincere emotions in every page. The writing was simply beautiful and touched me deeply. Lonna's struggle brought me to tears as I went through a heartaching journey with her. This girl has so much courage behind her angry, hurt and shaken self. Gavin is an amazing character. The twist literally stunned me and left me speechless. I adore Gaving for healing Lonna and protecting her and making her smile again. But he has a dark shadow that is completely unexpected. I cannot believe the author made me go through that hell! This story broke me but these stories also remain a source of strength and beliefs for me. Lonna and Gavin both had demons to slay and it's a lot easier when one has an amazing support system.
Blackout by Olivia Evans is a heart-wrenching, angst filled and beautifully imperfect romance. The moments in this story are priceless.
WOW THIS BOOK – unexpected but obsessed! Lonna is reeling with the aftermath of an event that has forever changed her life, and really leans on the support of her few friends/roommates that know what happened. Spiraling quickly, she somehow finds herself at a support group that changes her life and helps her to cope with what happened and start to move on from it and be a functioning adult. At this group, she meets Gavin, who while she’s attracted to him is unsure of how to proceed after what happened to her. As they continue to break the walls down that were built from what happened, she finally feels like she is moving on but something continues to hold her back, and Gavin hasn’t revealed what happened to him to cause him to be in the group. But when it comes out, it’s explosive and something I never saw coming, although something with it didn’t sit with me and as we keep reading, we realize what truly happened and hope that the relationship between Lonna and Gavin is able to be fixed. I truly became obsessed with this book and trying to figure out what exactly happened that I read this in one sitting, and when I figured it out and it came out I was shocked yet so proud of how much Lonna had changed from the beginning of the book to the end. I absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait for the next one from this author, who is starting to become one of my favorites! I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
WOW. Olivia Evans just gets better and better with each book she produces. This was written spectacularly. I normally gravitate towards darker romances but when I want to go out of my comfort zone with something that will gut me and make me FEEL emotions, this author is the one to choose. From the beginning I knew I would feel something deep for Lonna. And surprisingly enough, I felt something deep for Gavin too!!! But dont let the sugary sweet words confuse you. This book might be a trigger for some people when it comes to sexual assault. I just wanted to wrap Lonna in a hug the entire duration of my read. Having something so horrible and life altering happen to you and not being able to remember it is anyone's worst nightmare. But with the help of the meetings she goes to and Gavin himself, she learns to rebuild her life all over again. Olivia Evans is an author that is totally underrated and needs to come out of the shadows because everyone needs to read her words. She and this book will bring out ALL the emotions you have inside your soul
One night was all it took to change not only Lonna as a person but the course of her life. She may not remember exactly what happened and who was responsible but that has only made the second guessing and after effects so much harder to bear. Those that love her are trying to support her the best way they can, but she is feeling lost and broken until she finds a support group in the most unlikely of places and a man who helps her feel once again.
Gavin and Lonna forge an instant connection and he shows her that she is so much more than one night. With every word and every touch he helps her heal and realize that this one experience doesn’t define her but he has a secret of his own and when it is revealed it will rock her world and it may be a blow she can’t recover from.
This story takes you on an emotional journey unlike any other and the strength and resilience that Olivia shows is inspiring. Olivia and Gavin are such strong and compelling characters that capture your heart and remain with you long after the story ends.
IMPACTANTE!!!
An emotional story that introduces us to rape victims, how their lives are shattered, their fears, their trauma and their harassers; a wonderful encounter that tells us about friendship, sorority, support groups; we can find a ray of light to all the darkness that a violation throws at us. We must always be alert and attentive, trust our intuition and have someone to keep our backs, because rapists are in most people around us and a circle of trust.
Get ready for a rollercoaster of a ride with this one. My emotions were up and down and all tied up the entire journey. Olivia has captured what its like to try and pick up the pieces after a trauma when you're missing key memories. She wrote this story with so much grace and respect. The characters are human with flaws, but it just makes you love them more. It's hard to write all my feelings without giving any spoilers, but just know that you'll never be the same after you spend time with Lonna and Gavin.
Also, if anyone has a Pearl that they could share with me, I desperately need her in my life. And not only for her cakes ;)
Ever read a book that hits you in the heart? Well here it is. This book gave me everything I didn’t know I needed. I found anger, love, emptiness and acceptance. Olivia Evans write a book that will make you not want to stop reading.
Lonna’s story is heartbreaking but needed to be told. For some there will be understanding and for others help in looking at a situation in a different way.
Everyone needs a Gavin because he was everything, a Pearl because who doesn’t need a second momma and a Krista and Bat. You can’t get through life without a circle of friends that help you through life. And this book shows that.
