Killed in a trap of her own making, Sasha was swallowed by righteous flames that consumed the only mentor Mila might ever know. And with her, the very last one standing between Mila and true annihilation is dead.
And now, no one can save Mila from him.
Asher holds a power never seen on this side of the veil.
He's a better predator. One who will rewrite the laws of nature just to see her every whim satisfied. Her every need met, his obsession tempered by knees bent and bruised in service to his wicked desires.
And it was her own fault. All of it.
Guilt keeps her marooned on a lonely, forgotten spit of land, guarded by a man who holds all her secrets in a legendary vice of perfect control.
He feels everything. Covets every breath and gasp of pleasure as he lets her feast… but only if it's from him.
And now, nothing matters. Not her grief or wretched self-loathing.
Defeated, her choices reduced to cinders in a smoking wreckage, she has to bend or she will break…
USA Today Bestselling Author of The Last Tritan, Atom and Evil, The Feral Court, and many more to come!
Raised by her awesome parents in Canada's snowy north, Myra learned perseverance from an early age. She learned to speak in third person via extensive reading as a child, because... well... Northern Canada gets a LOT of snow. And when one isn't snowboarding, building quinzees, or waking up to teddy bears frozen to the floor (true story), one tends to read about places that are warm--even if being cold is preferable to being hot, every-damn-time.
All that reading gave Myra the gypsy bug. So, after college, (where she majored in professional gypsying) she moved to a ski resort in British Colombia to be a ski bum and chase the winter, because the cold was in her bones and it never bothered her anyway.
But then life caught up with her, as it does, and now she's stuffed full of enough life experience to write until transcendence (where she will be first in line to get a sweet android body and travel the universe until the end of time). So that's what she does when she's not listening to the voices or taking apart the electronics just to see their insides.
Cool right? Come be my friend on Goodreads, and have a free book for your troubles!! It's called Swallowed by Darkness, and it got me my USA Today Bestselling rank, baybee. Enjoy!!!
Whew, does anyone have some ice water? A fan? **Several** beach towels or something equally absorbent? The spice was real in this book! I’m pretty sure my husband has written an email personally to Myra Danvers to thank her for saving him money this month on hot water since I’ve only been taking cold showers while reading Mila and Asher’s latest book.
I know there’s been some confusion and frustration in the community about how long it took for this book to be released and upon learning that this wasn’t the last book BUT the Queen of Chaos made it beyond worth it. Perfection cannot be rushed! This book was filled with everything most readers want. Characters that are flawlessly and brilliantly brought to life in an amazing world built from scratch by Mistress Danvers, a story that grabs you by the throat and refuses to let you go until the very last word, and last but certainly not least the spicy factor is an eleven without taking anything away from storyline and in fact only adding to it.
And as for the frustrated “fans” out there, if waiting is an issue for you I suggest waiting any series until it’s completed. Authors no matter how big or small are human and life happens. Sliding into an authors dms to be nasty with your opinion of when a book should be finished will never be a good look, and I suggest that if you think that you can do a better job then you should go ahead and get *write* on that!
This is a great read and fantastic story. My BIGGEST complaint is that you inform us that 3 more books are to come? So essentially, almost 2 years before we get to the end? At $5/ book, that's a HEFTY price to pay! It's a complete turn-off & makes me wanta forget I read any of them.
Dust to Smoke is the third book in Myra Danvers' The Last Tritan series, and it continues the story of Mila and Asher, two powerful beings who are drawn to each other despite their differences. In this book, Mila is still reeling from the death of her mentor, Sasha, and she is struggling to come to terms with her own power. Asher, on the other hand, is trying to keep his own secrets hidden, and he is not sure if he can trust Mila. The two of them must work together to face a new threat to their world - A tall order for these two
Asher is struggling to control his beast, which is growing more powerful by the day, and Mila is trying to figure out how to save the world from the Tritan's destructive plans and herself from Asher as well as the Chancellor - both who will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Even if the results are just walking corpses. This takes a dark direction but don't worry even though Mila seems to give up - we all need the occasional pity party - she is far from out of the game
Mila and Asher's chemistry is off the charts. The supporting characters are also well-developed, and as you know from the previous episodes the world-building is top-notch. However, it ends a bit abruptly for my taste but that is a me problem.
A fast-paced, dark, fantasy novel that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. If you're looking for a new fantasy series to read, I highly recommend this one.
The cliffhanger hello??? This book is good, but sometimes certain scenes are being dragged along slowly, so I found myself skimming. It could only be me tho since I'm not in the mood to read lots of steamy scenes.
Overall, the story has been great (sometimes I can't picture the scenes and am confused). I love a heroine who doesn't act like a doormat. She might be impulsive and act with her unstable feelings, but she's smart, and I'm so proud of her for standing up even though her situations are fucked up and messy.
(I'm kind of hoping that the ending doesn't end up with her together with Asher but instead shows what truly her freedom is.)
Okay, so I probably should have gone back and read books 1 and 2 again, because it has been a long while since I read them, and some things came back but also felt a little lost because I know that I have forgotten some key pieces. That being said, Mila girl!!! Asher tried to warn you, he did, and you are stubborn (but so am I so I can't fault you for that 😒). Thanks for that cutthroat cliffhanger, Myra! I highly recommend the series, great incredible, and intense read.
Update: CORRECTION- so actually I’m a goof, I actually read the other series of Myra’s - Tritan Evolution (which I also highly recommend)😉 So I am now going to read Book 1 and 2 of The Last Tritan!
While I enjoyed this book I was disappointed that it wasn’t the finale book. I feel that maybe by the time the next book comes out I will have forgotten what happened in the first 3. It makes me wish I hadn’t started the series until all the books have been written.
Does anyone know how many more books are in this series before the end?
Merged review:
Good but cliff hanger ending. 3 more books still to be written in this series
‘But I was apart. Drifting as the captain’s hands held my body pinned in place, while my mind was somewhere else entirely. Observing from a lonely island in the middle of an ocean of scarcely contained power, while a leviathan circled my tiny refuge. Swimming at such an impossible speed that the wake of his every lap was nearly enough to drown me in crashing waves of liquid fire.’
Can you hold your breath for the length of an entire book? I finally have air in my lungs after completing Dust to Smoke, the third book in the Chaos Demon’s, err, I mean Myra Danver’s The Last Triton series, and I am all but a writhing wet noodle of saturated and intensely exposed emotions. I believe standing in a lightening storm, in the middle of a vast wet field, would give readers a similar result upon completion of this book-with every delicious nerve ending fried and sizzling.
Mila and Asher’s relationship cannot remotely be confined to anything previously categorized. Experiencing Danver’s hefty words feel like being submerged in a vat of rainbows-if rainbows had no color. No boundaries, no path to follow, cliffs where you cannot see them, shattered and broken skin and bones? Yes, all of these things you will find on this bridge of curled emotion.
A message will be extracted, through Dust to Smoke, but an answer will still be beyond our reach, as we attempt to grasp onto the skeletal fingers of understanding. As we relive the pain. As we seek to understand a universe that lives only in the cells of Chaos.
Dust to Smoke begins immediately after the previous book in the series, and revolves around Mila and Asher navigating the shocking aftermath of Sasha’s actions—most notably, the political consequences and the changes it causes in their magic and their relationship.
This book grips you by the throat right from page one and does not relent. The author does a great job setting up threats to our couple from every angle, from the dangerous interest of Asher’s military superiors to Carina vying for a political marriage. I loved the moments where Mila and Asher have to set aside their quarreling and work together to overcome a problem (which they do remarkably well, when it comes down to it). Also loved the first glimpses of Asher’s softer side, though he’s still a right prick who deserves to be slapped around. The tension between Asher and Mila is, to put it eloquently, fuckin’ hawt, and led to some absolutely drool-worthy steamy scenes.
For cons, some of the abstract descriptions of magic use and what the characters were sensing or feeling were a little hard to follow. I had to re-read a lot of paragraphs to make sure I was interpreting everything correctly.
This is the third book in this exhilarating, sexy and out of this world dystopian series and you MUST read them in order. This third book made me salivate and hungry for so much more and when Asher's beast comes out to play with Mila, BOOM, you will definitely be fanning yourself, heavily!
I so love Myra Danvers’ style of writing because she makes you feel as though you have leaped right into the pages, and you forget all time and space. The next thing I knew it was 4 hours later. So, if you want to get lost in an epic fight between two strong, sexy, and powerful characters, then this is the series for you.
Cliffhanger… Myra Danvers’ also has a very evil mean streak when it comes to cliffhangers and yes, this one is epic.
I can’t wait for the next installment and I’m not waiting patiently!
I have received this as an ARC and this is my honest review.
Dust to Smoke picks up right where Frost to Dust left off with Mila and Asher having to deal with the aftermath of Sasha's final act. Asher's control appears iron clad and Mila seems to be a compliant shell of her former self. Or is she? The political games that Asher has to play while hiding both Mila and himself away from prying eyes are quite treacherous. Meanwhile, the heat and chemistry between these two escalates. And, once the beast makes an appearance, all bets are off. But Sasha may not have left Mila as powerless as it seems and we're left on a brutal cliffy as she's faced with yet another impossible choice. This book definitely kept me invested and at the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see what happens next!
I unfortunately don't like this book at all. This is supposed to take place in a span of a couple days. It felt like everything was taking forever. Again, Mila made some dumb decisions that I couldn't deal with her anymore. After everything she suffered, experienced, and the warnings she reviewed, she still thought she knew best. Granted, grief overshadowed a lot of her decisions, but my goodness sake! Asher also is just ugh! He is not what I want from a MMC especially since he's had absolutely no growth over 3 books. Then to get to the end and that cliffhanger? Nope. This is where I end My journey with this series. Maybe I'll pick up the rewritten and edited version of this series but I'm not sure.
This book jumps in right where Frost to Dust left ends with Mila and Asher having to deal with the aftermath of Sasha's actions. The games that Asher is playing while hiding both of them away are treacherous. The chemistry between these two is escalating and the heat. Once the beast makes an appearance, all bets are off. But Asher's control appears to be ironclad, Mila seems to be a compliant shell of her former self. Or is she hiding something? Sasha may not have left Mila as powerless. It seems we're on another brutal cliffhanger as she's faced with yet another impossible choice. This book has kept me on the edge of my seat and I can't wait to see what happens next in the next book.
The metaphorical style gets confusing Prefer this series to the newer one but not much happens in book 3. The book picks up where the last left off and spans about 2 days after Mila spends 8days in bed. I've forgotten a lot of Book 1 + 2 and the metaphorical style of the writing made for extreme confusion! Not sure it needed to be a whole book since it's literally 48hours of action; 1 x picnic and 1 x funeral. Probably could have cut out a chunk of magic talk (energy going back and forth, lots of sparks randomly appearing here and there) and merged this with the next book. Some new ground is covered with Asher and Mila but not enough for any real meaning, I am disappointed with it.
Dust to Smoke is the third book in The Last Tritan series Mila and Asher, what can I say, I love to hate them both.
In this book, Mila is mourning the death of Sasha, and continue struggling with her power. Asher, is doing what he can to protect her but she is so difficult an stubborn (not thta I can blame her). They must work together and that is rrally difficult.
Mila and Asher a really hot together, the pages melts with them. I love Marco, for me he is one of the best.
Excuse me while I still recover from being wrecked reading this book. From one cliffhanger to the next. You’ve been warned. Dark, messy and addicting. The hate/obsession between Mila and Asher continues to have me hooked. Myra is a dark twisted genius and continues to impress me with each book. Well written and quite a ride (pun intended). I look forward with trepidation and excitement to the next book in the series.

In saying that, :D I loved this new book in the series. I have followed this author for a number of years and will now have to wait for more, along with all her other fans, :) for the next installment of these characters. If you have read the first two in series, you will enjoy this latest book. Grab it and enjoy. :)
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout, that I am only too happy to have read and review.
Hidden secrets and secret desires. Dust to Smoke picks up from the cliffhanger where Frost to Dust left off and ends on a cliffhanger where the 4th part of the story will start. Mila and Asher have an interesting dynamic. Enemies just doesn't explain the animosity or the emotion behind the actions.
The third book in the Last Tritan series, Mila and Asher's story continues with Mila trying to come to grips with the lose of her mentor, Sasha, and Asher has his own struggles. The story held my interest and just as it is getting really interesting it ends on another cliff-hanger. I can not wait to read the next book. This story is so intense and incredibly well written. I do have to admit I love me some Asher. I just think he is so hot. Myra, you absolutely killed it with the sex scenes - they were soo dam hot 🥵🔥 The cliffhanger was a killler, but I’m so invested in what is next.

Mila is coming to terms with the death of Sasha, but she has Asher who is there for her. This is an intense story that has twists and turns that drew me in and kept me glued to the pages.

There are not enough words for how awesome this book is. Seriously well written, just like all of her books. The heat is off the charts, the characters are so well written. She continues to be one of my favorite authors.
Love these books but I do think the way they were turned into different books (with three still coming) is a bit odd. The first three should have been one book and don't feel like three separate and full books, or even three volumes.
That said, the writing is fine and the story feels new
Love Myra Danvers works I just consumed the last 24 hours reading books one through three nonstop. 🫠 Looking forward to reading Smoke to Cinder when it comes out 🥰
Raw. This whole series leaves me feeling raw all over. From the forced submission, to slavery, the feelings of having not only your people and culture taken and enslaved, but your very power, being, and identity forced from you and used against. Held by your enemies as they treat you like less of a being. It's every woman's deep-seated nightmare.
Here the Mistress of the Darkness, who isn't afraid of those taboo feelings, those tender thoughts, she writes a whole series centered around not only a a good of woman who are enslaved by greedy , power hungry men but she gives us this character who is unable to admit that she is captured, her peer and body used against her. She fights the Golden chains that bind her and all it does it feed that lusty bratty who holds her chains.
Danvers allows, through this whole series, the reader to feel this gut-churning anguish and frustration along with Mila. We get to think what we would do in her situation. It's all so maddening and perfect in its twist way. Situations that are sickening but you find yourself reading just because you need to know if she escapes or if Asher somehow becomes the "good guy".
I always recommend M. Danvers books, bit they come work a caveat. These are not for the faint of heart and should not be read if you are some one that sees fiction as fact. There are heavy issues in this book and series and it takes me picking up and seeing down to get through some of the scenes. There is a cliffhanger and no good news on sight so don't expect a HEA in the future.
** As always thank you to the author for the advance copy **.

It’s been a while since I last read part two of the story. So, it took a while for my rusty brain cells to catch up with the story. When we last saw Mila and Asher, I thought they were about to turn a page for the better mostly because I thought this was the last book in the “trilogy”. Turns out this is a Douglas Adams style trilogy. The author expects it to be a six part series.
So, a bunch of stuff happened in this part of the story. There were some interesting revelations that further the plot. And we are left with a cliffhanger.
My main focus was on the relationship between Mila and Asher. Mila hates Asher virulently, mostly on principle. He’s a Caledonian and they are the enemy. She really does have so many other good reasons to hate the whole lot of them. So, I don’t begrudge her feelings and behavior.
On the other hand, I feel sympathy for Asher because he is trying to keep her safe and unnoticed by people who want to hurt her while she keeps having her version of temper tantrums and getting noticed by people who want to hurt her.
Alicia, Mila’s assistant, is becoming a favorite. I originally wanted to dislike her for her unforgivable treason to Mila. However, it turns out there is some depth to her that hasn’t been completely revealed yet. She is very street-smart and kind of funny. So is Marco, Asher’s right hand man.
Can’t wait to see what happens next.
