idk why but i thought the CRA trilogy was the only books this author had written. 😂 maybe cause it’s his most popular works. glad to see you had a fun time with this one though! awesome review, yun!

Superb review, Yun! Looks like the author knows what he wants to write and how to present it.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this one, Yun! I adored Crazy Rich Asians, but had mixed opinions on some of Kwan’s more recent offerings. It sounds like he’s fully delivering here though! Plus, that cover is gorgeous! Satire is not an easy genre to write well. It can be crass and distancing in the wrong hands. But Kwan seems to know how to paint a truly colorful elegant world, with characters you can’t help but care about even when you are side-eyeing them!
Absolutely BRILLIANT review, Yun! Wow! Not only is your review extremely well written, but you touched on so much. I love that you gave 4 stars. I agree with your assessment of his research ability and genius with satire. He is a gifted author. Glad this one delivered for you!

Thanks, Julie! I adored his CRA trilogy, but haven't read his book before this one (Sex and Vanity). I feel like this one has the vibes of what made CRA so popular, which it sounds like he might have lost a bit in SAV and hence many people did not like as much. But yes, gorgeous cover for sure!

Thanks, Megs! I always recommend starting with an author's most popular work. That way, if you enjoy, you can branch out to their lesser known works, and if you don't, then you won't feel like you missed out on anything. In this case, that would be "Crazy Rich Asians". if you get to it, I hope you enjoy! Will be eager to see your thoughts! :)
