I loved Sky. She is unapologetically herself and while she does shrink herself at the beginning, she knows what she wants and works towards getting everything. Adam is surprisingly gooey under a very crunchy shell. These two have animosity and sweetness and a whole ton of chemistry.
Plot wise, it's good. There are a few moving parts and some things felt like an afterthought, but I recognize maybe it was so show how scattered Sky was at certain points. The conflict was short lived and I really wanted more from the epilogue as it felt rushed.
Overall, this was such a good story and I easily could have read 500 more pages of Sky and the animals.

That being said, I didn't know this was Travis and Taylor coded until I got started.
I liked these four MCs well enough. And yes, I say 4 because even though this is supposed to be Poppy and Rosaline's story, Cash and Lyric are all over the pages. And yes yes, it makes sense because of the jobs slash relationships, but it never quite felt like Poppy was the whole story.
Plot wise, it's pretty busy while there's also not a lot going on. The third act breakup was contrived and I wanted more for all of them. However, I will say that some of the banter was top notch.
Overall, it was a quick read and even though I was a little disappointed, I think Taylor Swift fans might love this.

i liked josie and axe well enough. she’s sunny and he’s crunchy and they’re both very loyal. they have absolutely no chemistry at all, but they keep telling themselves that the other is so hot and the kisses are so electric that they begin to believe it. so, there’s that.
plot wise, it was a lot of things and still sort of nothing at the same time. the main problem that i had was the so-called relationship evolution. we’re told that they have a lot of texting conversations to get to know each other, but on the page, it’s only a handful of in person interactions. the suspense was non-existent, the romance was meh, but the entire story was so bonkers, i couldn’t look away.
overall, this wasn’t at all what i expected, but it was entertaining and kept me interested in the ending.
fyi: on the page scenes of murder, talk of sex trafficking, on the page scenes of sex trafficking

i love love love willa and lincoln. she’s all crunchy and grumpy on the outside, total gooey center. he’s all charm, loyalty, and straight pining like a MFer. i adored reading these two with their flirting disguised as button pushing, open conversations, and so much UST you could choke on it. of course, this group of characters is a lot of fun, especially when the brothers are all together.
plot wise, it’s good. there are a few moving parts, but the majority of the story is just willa and lincoln trying to figure out how they caught feelings (on her side) and how to make this fake marriage real (on his side). i could have easily read a million more pages of their chemistry and love. and while i wanted just a bit more from the epilogue, brighton set up the next book with the pairing i’ve been waiting for.
overall, if you’ve been sleeping on reading brighton’s books, i can’t recommend them enough. get your eyeballs on any of her series for characters you can root for and cackle at and a guaranteed hea.

This sounded like everything I would had loved and instead it fell flat for me. I didn't care about any of these characters and so it was hard to care about the plot. The tension was non-existent, the reveal was meh, and for a short book, I still couldn't settle in.

I loved Nell and Miles. They're both smart and tenacious, loyal and ready to belong to someone. Together they have instant banter and chemistry. I loved reading them investigate a murder while trying to figure out what's between them. Of course it was a delight to see Effie and Gabriel again.
Plot wise, it was good. These two are together most of the time and even better, they have loads of open conversations. They truly took the time to get to know each other and the relationship moved along organically. Again, there's the murder part, but it moved deliciously slow until the very end.
Overall, this was a quick read with fun characters who I couldn't get enough of. If there's another book, I hope to see them again.

I don't usually do fantasy books, but this one intrigued me.
I liked Rosie well enough. She's sweet and good and absolutely confused about what's going on. Valtar is standoffish and a mystery and somehow these two have a decent amount of chemistry. I will say that I thought this was YA and the inner monologue for both of them read as younger.
Plot wise, it's mostly good. There are a lot of moving pieces and the tension just never really showed up for me. The action scenes kept me captivated; however it was some of the conversation scenes that left me bored. All of the reveals happened in the last few chapters and even though it didn't technically end on a cliffhanger, these characters are definitely at the start of their quest.
Overall, the story kept me reading and I am interested to see how it all plays out. I'll definitely be reading book 2.

I loved Eve and Madden. They're both so good, loyal, and loving and it was awesome to read how they were just pining away for each other. They have loads of open communication, so much chemistry it's palpable, and a bright spark between them. I won't lie: Veda was a damn delight and I definitely wanted more from her.
Plot wise, it was exactly what I wanted for these two: a past and present flip flop of chapters that highlighted how intertwined they were from the start coupled with the frantic insanity of real life and how they were going to make it work. My main complaint is that while the epilogue was wonderful, the ending felt a bit abrupt and I would have liked a bit more.
Overall, this is another great installment of the series and I just might have to go back and read them back to back.

I couldn't resist the premise of this one as it's not every day the virgin FMC walks into a sex club as the opener to the book.
I really liked Stella.I couldn't resist the premise of this one as it's not every day the virgin FMC walks into a sex club as the opener to the book.
I really liked Stella. She's smart and stands up for herself and knows what she wants. Max is charming and driven and these two fall into a good amount of chemistry. There are a few friends on each side, but Effie and Kira stole the scenes they were in.
Plot wise, it's good. The story moves pretty quickly and has a few moving parts. The build up to the conflict wasn't directly relationship related and so there wasn't a third act breakup. I will say that the ending and epilogue felt rushed and if that had been fleshed out just a bit more, I probably would have given this 4 stars.
Overall, it was easy to root for these characters and I look forward to whatever Zakiya writes next.

I liked Mona well enough. She's loyal, full of heart, and desperately wants to belong. I could use the same descriptors for Ben. Together these two have a load of history, even more hurt, but not much chemistry. I will say that Mona's BFF Jacklyn was a delight.
Plot wise, it was okay. The setting of Iceland and all of the imagery really set the scene and it got me hooked. Sadly, the lack of real communication and Mona's consistent push and pull quickly became monotonous. The last few chapters were really good and I liked how it all ended.
Overall, I wanted just a bit more showing and less telling, but I'm eager to see if there is going to be a Jacklyn book.

I like Leanne well enough. She's tough and resilient and stands up for herself. There are a good amount of secondary characters, but this is pretty firmly Leanne's story.
Plot wise, it was okay. There are a lot of moving parts with a few POVs and everything moved at the slowest of paces. Yet even still, it felt like certain things weren't fleshed out. The last few chapters were definitely the best and while it was a satisfying ending, I wanted just a bit more.
Overall, an interesting idea, but not a story that will likely stick with me.

Simon is I've been reading John Grisham since he was first published and then I just sort of dropped off, so I was pretty excited to get to this one.
Simon is not a great person. He's miserable and that shows in all of this actions. His inner monologue was all about getting the money, getting away from his wife, and getting set up somewhere else. This entire cast of characters made it difficult to root for.
Plot wise, it's pretty damn slow and very very repetitive. There was some mild action scenes in the courtroom scenes, but for the most part it's all telling, no showing. And the ending is quite abrupt.
Overall, I liked the idea and something kept me read, but I thinks it's more nostalgia that has me rating this three stars.

I absolutely adore Charlie. I love her tenacity and willingness to do whatever she feels is right, not matter the cost. And this cast of characters just got more intriguing as we went on.
Plot wise, there's a lot happening. The story would laser focus on one plot thread, only to move to something else as soon as that first piece had me in a thrall. Of course, that's why Holly is amazing...
Overall, I love how this one wrapped up (seriously, that ending was perfect); however, I will there was just a little bit more.

I really liked Charlie. She's smart, self-aware, and a really interesting person. There's a good amount of characters here, but this is seriously Charlie's story.
Plot wise, it's a very slow build up with a lot of world building and rules for shadow magic. It's told in a past and present chapter form for part of the story and it really fleshed out everything. Once it got going, it was captivating and the ending was bonkers.
Overall, this was a pretty intriguing set up and I'm eager to see how it all plays out.
