Loved the format with this one. Jumping back and forward in tim. It was very well done and allowed for a slooooow yet gripping reveal!
In typical Marrs style there was twist after twist in this one. I thought I had it all figured out and then there were more twists. This was my kind of book!
Another fantastic Marrs read. He has not failed to disappoint me yet! The audiobook was great also, very well acted!

This book is set in an alternate reality where all you need to do is send off your DNA to a match company and they will let you know when they find your DNA love match, the ONE person in the entire world that is meant to be for you. With over a billion people on the database, getting a match is highly likely. This is the story of 5 people who for some reason or another, send off their DNA and find their match, and the ramifications that follow.
I just LOVED this whole thing. What a fun ride! It had everything! Lots of romance, thrills, chills, betrayal, humour! What an AMAZING concept for a story!
This is the second book by Marrs that I have read. A few years ago I read The Passengers, and I absolutely loved that one too - so when I read the synopsis for this I IMMEDIATELY downloaded the audio version. It did not disappoint!
The audio! FANTASTIC!! One of the best ones I have listened to in ages - and I have a library of over 300 titles! I couldn't stop listening to it!
So clever and addictive, I absolutely loved this one! I was hooked from the first paragraph....more

Finally decided to go through all the books I have purchased but not read, and it's a lot of them! Saw this one and dived right in!
I know that this is a trilogy, but FAR OUT I don't think I have ever read such a cliff-hanger ending and I hated it! I didn't hate the book at all! I hated the ending because I have to buy another book now!
Calla and her twin brother Finn are inseparable. But Finn has a serious mental illness and relies on Calla. When she meets the mysterious Dare, she is immediately drawn to him. Why is she so drawn to him? And what are he and her brother hiding?
That's all I'm going to give away about the plot, because you have to read it for more and there is SO much more.
I thought I had the twist figured out. I was wrong. BOY WAS I WRONG!
I loved the atmosphere the author created and the slow unravelling of the twists and turns. It was so dark and you knew all along that there was something else there, an undercurrent, ready to take you somewhere else entirely with the plot!

In 1982, young Vivian gets a job as the night clerk for a cheap and crappy motel called The Sun Down Motel in the small town of Fell. Soon she discovers that the guests are not the only occupants of this hotel. Something haunts the Sun Down, and Viv is going to find out what is going on.
In 2017, Carly makes her way to Fell following her mother’s death. Her Aunt Vivian disappeared without a trace over thirty years prior, and she wants to see if she can solve the mystery. What happened to Vivian? What haunts the hotel? And will Carly be next?
This was a great little thriller! I really enjoyed the different time frames with different chapters and how they are weaved together. It was cleverly crafted and the pace moved quickly, but not jarringly so.
Although I loved all the characters – I wish that there would have been a touch more with the romance in both time frames. Perhaps some more witty dialogue between the love interests, or something to build up the tension a bit more. It just felt a little lackluster. But still such an enjoyable read to escape reality for a while!
I really enjoyed how it was a story about a haunted hotel, but that's not what the entire storyline was about. It was intricate and exciting. Unfortunately, I guessed the twist/s from long before the pages ended, but that didn’t take away the enjoyment of the story for me. It was a captivating and exciting little thriller with horror elements and I think most thriller fans would enjoy it, as long as they don’t mind a couple of PISSED OFF scary ghosts!
I purchased The Sun Down Motel at my own expense on my kindle
I am determined. I am going through my kindle and reading all the impulse purchases I have made but not read over the years. Does anyone else do that?I am determined. I am going through my kindle and reading all the impulse purchases I have made but not read over the years. Does anyone else do that? Oh that looks great BUY IT even though you already have 100 books to read and it ends up going further and further down your kindle library, almost forgotten.
For some reason at the time I liked the sound of this one and bought it. Yay because it was actually really good.
Geo is sent to prison for assisting a serial killer murder and dismember her best friend. Well he wasn't a serial killer at the time, just her rough abusive boyfriend, and she was only 16. All grown up now - she is ready to pay for what she helped him with all those years ago. And now she is out she is in trouble. He has escaped from prison and no one is safe.
Lots of twists and turns in this one. Loved the atmosphere and the story. I loved the prison aspect of the story. The whole thing was very readable. I will have a look at what else Hillier has written.
The only reason I am giving it 4 stars is because I guessed well in advance the final twist and what would happen with that. I was hoping something else was going to pop up, but it didn't.
Great read. Onto the next old kindle purchase!...more
Eddie is back! This is becoming my favourite courtroom drama yet super-thriller series. Absolutely love it!
Eddie has had a little bit of time to get Eddie is back! This is becoming my favourite courtroom drama yet super-thriller series. Absolutely love it!
Eddie has had a little bit of time to get over the events of the prior novel, when he is approached by the CIA to take on a billionaire client accused of murder and get him to take admit guilt and take a plea. And as added incentive, he uses Eddie's wife to blackmail him. Set to take on the job, Eddie soon realises that he doesn't believe the billionaire is capable of murdering anyone, and there is a HUGE conspiracy in the works.
I love the twists and turns in this series! The formula is excellent. We know there is something big coming, he sets the scene... But he never tells us until we are in that courtroom and the bombshell is dropped. We are left thinking "Oh what is it he has found!!!" And are as surprised as the characters are when it comes out in court. I LOVE THAT!
This series is action-packed. SUPER SMART and a lot of fun.
I really enjoyed this one. It had a great pace, some new characters and a really good premise. Can't wait to see what Eddie gets up to in the next one!
Did I enjoy the audio version? Yes the narrator of this series Adam Sims is awesome. I hope he does them all!
Would I recommend The Plea? Absolutely! If the first two are anything to go by, this is going to be an AMAZING series!
4.5 Stars I picked up the thriller Thirteen on audible before realising it was the 4th in a series. Although I probably could have started there, I hav4.5 Stars I picked up the thriller Thirteen on audible before realising it was the 4th in a series. Although I probably could have started there, I have learned in the past that it is really better to start a series from the beginning. So I thought I would check out Eddie Flynn 1 – The Defence. So glad I did! The audio version of this was brilliant! So much fun!
The Story
Eddie is having a REALLY bad day. First thing he is eating breakfast, the next he is in court – where he swore he would never be again, defending a mob boss with a bomb around him about to go off at any minute. And they have his 10-year-old daughter and are going to kill her if he doesn't win this case...
My Thoughts
Oh man I loved it! NON STOP ACTION and TWIST AFTER TWIST! I got through this one so quickly because I could not stop listening!!
It was like reading an action movie. It literally did not stop. And I just LOVED the courtroom stuff. I mean sure, you have to suspend your beliefs slightly, but that’s what books are for DAMMIT!
The writing was fabulous, I really enjoyed the way he describes complex legal mumbo jumbo easily so that anyone can understand what is happening, and it was just so darn clever with those twists and turns.
I have already purchased the next one! I LOVED IT!
What did I think of the audio version?
Like a movie in my ears! Absolutely fantastic! I was a bit sad when it ended, but happy because there are MORE IN THE SERIES!
Would I recommend The Defence?
Yes absolutely! I thought it was just fantastic! I am sure most thriller fans will enjoy this one! Especially if they love a bit of courtroom drama and crazy twists.

The Story Shelby Lake is a police officer in a small town. The Sheriff, her adopted father, discovered her at his front door as a newborn baby and raised her as his own. All is quiet in the town until one day, a 10-year-old boy goes missing and it is clear that everyone in the town is keeping secrets...
My Thoughts
Well, what a great audiobook! It was so well written.
The characters were rich and relatable. They all had flaws and it was a lot of fun trying to unravel their secrets.
There were so many twists and turns. I am generally really good at figuring out the mysteries in thrillers, but there were so many interwoven parts to this one that although I did suspect some of it, I was majorly surprised with the majority, and I LOVE that!
I only had a few issues with it, one of them trivial. The romance. Where was it? I just find it so hard to believe that Shelby is so dedicated to her father that she wouldn't let ANYONE in. But my major issue was one of the mysteries. Without spoiling it, one of the pivotal mysteries in the whole book gets a few teasers and then is left unsolved. It was so utterly frustrating and nearly ruined the whole experience for me.
What Did I Think of the Audio Version? I loved the narrator. She was one of the best narrators I have heard do a thriller in a while! Anyone who has read my reviews of audio books know that I am not the biggest fan of female narrators when they are doing thrillers and portraying male characters. However, she was AMAZING! I could have listened to her forever.
Would I recommend The Deep Deep Snow?
Yes, despite the above, it was a really good who-done-it! I really enjoyed all the layers to the story and characters. I think if you are new to audiobooks and like thrillers, this is a great place to start! Highly recommended!
3.5 Stars I was in the mood for a good sci-fi and had seen some good reviews of Level Five.
Its a bit complicated to sum up. Artificial intelligence – S3.5 Stars I was in the mood for a good sci-fi and had seen some good reviews of Level Five.
Its a bit complicated to sum up. Artificial intelligence – Skynet-Judgement-Day style. The creations become the destroyers.
I have heard this being described as an “intelligent sci-fi” and I must agree. Sometimes it was so intelligent that it wen’t over my head a bit. And parts of it I found to be quite slow moving.
However, the nano tech was SO COOL! I absolutely loved the technology in this. I would love to see if humans can actually come up with tech like this. It was innovative and so very clever, I loved that part about this book!
The relationships between the characters were well imagined, they were all complicated and interesting. A few aspects of the relationships were a bit unbelievable, but overall I liked the touches of romance and angst.
Unfortunately I wasn’t blown away. But it was still an enjoyable listen!
What did I think of the audio version? The narration was great. Absolutely nailed it! I keep looking to see who the other narrator was because i SWEAR there were two? Or is he just that good!??
Would I recommend Level Five? I think hardcore sci-fi fans will really enjoy this. Or people who enjoy stories of technology and artificial intelligence. Overall a solidly good 11.5 hours and definitely worth the audible credit!

I ADORED Dark Matter when I listened to the audio version last year! My brain has never hurt so much yet felt so good while reading a book before! AMAZING! So I was SO DARN EXCITED when I randomly received Recursion in the mail from the lovely peeps over at Pan Macmillan. It was my most anticipated read of the year!
The plot is very complicated. It follows two seemingly unconnected people, Barry and Helena. Barry is a police officer and Helena a talented scientist attempting to develop new technologies to help her dying mother. When people start becoming afflicted with the new phenomenon “False memory syndrome”, Barry and Helena get thrust into an adventure that defies reality itself.
Oh where do I begin! MIND BLOWN!!! This book has my name written all over it. False memories, out-there science! It was a dream to read!
I love how Crouch does his research. You can tell he is so into this stuff. The stuff about time and how we are never really in the present, we are always slightly living in the past resonated with me. I recently listened to a TED talk which was explaining this exact thing.
The plot was complex but so enjoyable. The characters were all awesome and the book got straight to the action.
There was action, adventure, romance, crazy science, blood and guts, and some humour for good measure. I loved it!
Would I recommend Recursion? Yes I LOVED IT! Although I didn’t quite enjoy Recursion as much as Dark Matter, it was still a great read and one of my favourites this year! An author to keep an eye on if you enjoy reading mind-boggling sci-fi!
I will leave you with my favourite passage from the entire book!
“he has years to say goodbye to make certain she knows he loves her, to say all the things that are in his heart, and there is immeasurable comfort in that. He has wondered lately if that’s all living really is – one long goodbye to those we love”
Many thanks to Pan Macmillan for an advanced copy of Recursion for me to read in exchange for an honest review.

Evan is a former elusive member of the government run “Orphan” program and an elite killer. He leaves the program following the death of his mentor and becomes the Nowhere Man, helping people who need it most. But this time he becomes the one who needs the help when he finds himself prisoner of a psychopath.
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW I LOVED THIS BOOK! Look, yes I know it was corny and unbelievable a lot of the time, but if you come into a book like this expecting believability you are going to be disappointed. It was non-stop action, blood, guts, violence, gore, and surprisingly a touch of emotion and grit. AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
The Nowhere Man would be ok as a stand-alone, but it will be much better if you read the first one, Orphan X beforehand – Not only is that an amazing book also, but you will get a feel for the character and have a much better understanding of what is going on.
Did I enjoy the audio version? YES! So awesome! I said the same thing about Orphan X, but it is like an action movie for your ears. I had trouble turning it off!
Would I recommend the Nowhere Man? Yes, this is one of my favourite series! Action/thriller/adventure fans, if you haven’t experienced it yet, go and grab the first one and sit back and enjoy the ride! Thankfully for me there are a few more to go!

Anna is stuck in a hotel in a storm with a bunch of guests. One of them is a killer and she is next. Who is it? And why?
I really enjoyed this one! There was a lot of suspense, action, intrigue and mystery. They could absolutely make a movie out of this one! It didn't totally blow me away, but it was a solidly good read!
I really enjoyed the character, I didn't have a CLUE who did it until the reveal. It was amazing how EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER could have done it, and you really had no solid evidence against one person in particular. Points for that. I usually can guess it, but NO IDEA
Would I recommend Sleep? Yes, absolutely! Any thriller or mystery fan should enjoy this one! Good fun!
Many thanks to the publisher via Netgalley for a copy of Sleep to read and review.

She is a very well-known romance author but has gone out of her comfort zone to write Verity, a chilling psychological thriller. And WOW! What a book!
Lowen is a writer and accepts a job co authoring a hit series by best-selling author Verity Crawford who is unable to write due to illness. While going through notes to plan the next book, she comes across an unfinished and unseen manuscript for Verity’s autobiography. And let’s just say that Verity had a LOT of secrets…
I absolutely LOVED this book. It grabbed me from the very start with its clever writing, awesome characters and addictive storyline.
There were SO MANY twists and turns. She keeps you guessing through the whole thing as to what on earth is going on. It is put together so slowly, carefully and cleverly that I had trouble stopping and lost a lot of sleep listening to it!
I hate saying the old “for fans of Gone Girl and Girl on a Train” line, but it had the feel of both of these, except WAY better! I might go and read some more of Hoover’s books now even though this is the only thriller she has done!
Did I enjoy the audio version? Yes I LOVED both of the narrators, the audio had me on the edge of my seat and that is difficult for me because I read a fair few thrillers so am immune to a lot of chills and thrills!
Would I recommend Verity? Absolutely! I don’t want to spoil any more of the plot. If you are a fan of thrillers, especially ones that screw with your mind a bit, you should really enjoy this one!
5 out of 5 stars for sure and the top book of the year so far for me!

Kathryn Croft does it again with another riveting psychological thriller! She is a must-read author of mine! This one was probably my least favourite Kathryn Croft does it again with another riveting psychological thriller! She is a must-read author of mine! This one was probably my least favourite of hers, and that's saying something because it was still fantastic!
Zoe's son Ethan drowned with his best friend three years ago and Zoe had only just started getting her life back on track. All of a sudden she gets a mysterious email. "You need to find out the truth about what happened to your son". All of a sudden she is on a quest to discover what really happened to Ethan.
Really enjoyed this one. As usual, Croft dives straight into it and we are soon wondering what on earth is going on and who did it. There is a large range of characters to choose from and there are many twists and turns along the way.
Although I'm not sure if anyone could guess what really happened, I came awfully close. But there was still an extra surprise that I wasn't expecting. However, saying that I wasn't blown away by the dramatic climax of the novel.
Her writing, as usual - is brilliant. Gradually increasing the tension until you are bursting to find out the truth. The characters were well developed and I just love the way she only gives a little bit away at precisely the right time.
Would I recommend The Warning? Absolutely! I would recommend ANYTHING by Kathryn Croft for thriller fans. Just pick any of them! You won't be disappointed!

Darby stops at a rest stop in a blizzard. While trying to get some cell phone service, by chance she happens to find a little girl locked up in a van, bound and gagged. Problem is, she is stuck at the rest stop with four strangers and she doesn’t know which one of them is the kidnapper. Who can she trust? How is she going to save the girl?
Absolutely fantastic! Non-stop action! Twists and turns everywhere! I Loved it!
Darby was awesome, her character really evolved during the book. She started off as really selfish, it was interesting to watch her change in a matter of hours.
I loved all the other characters, good/bad, innocent or not, all the characters were well written and I loved all the twists and turns.
The writing was action packed and gripping from the first few chapters. As soon as the scene was set it jumped straight into the gritty plot.
I can see this one as a blockbuster movie! It wouldn’t surprise me if someone adapted it!
Did I enjoy the audio version? Yes it was fantastic! Loved the narrator, she did a great job at all the voices and easily set the scene for the NON STOP ACTION!
Would I recommend No Exit? Yes! A fabulous thriller! Thriller fans will eat this one up!

I had such high hopes for this one! I really enjoyed Never Say Goodbye and was looking forward to the next riveting episode of the Tom Fabian series… I had such high hopes for this one! I really enjoyed Never Say Goodbye and was looking forward to the next riveting episode of the Tom Fabian series… With this beautiful cover I was expecting another solidly good thriller. Unfortunately though – it didn’t do that much for me.
And so we begin this tale three years following the events of the first novel. The killer was caught and imprisoned, and Tom… Well, not much has changed with Tom to be honest. In fact his life is pretty well boring as hell. So EXCITEMENT!!! He is asked by the killer to go and visit him in prison. Yes! The storyline is looking up! He gives him a diary, and then kills himself. The killer that is, not Tom… Although I am not sure which would have been more exciting… Anyway, people start dying just like the first time. WOW There must be a copycat!!! Cue extremely boring stuff happening to Tom, interviewing about 10000000 people, asking them the same questions and making them all out to be bad guys and rubbing them up the wrong way. Oh and Tom’s daughter is in college now. But nothing bad can happen to her over there… Right?
What a let down. I had this sitting on my kindle for so long, and FINALLY get a chance to read it. WHAT THE HELL??? It just lacked… So much…. Where is the character development?? What on earth happened to Tom? What has changed in the last 3 years? Absolutely NOTHING!
I thought the ending was such a cop out. Perhaps this one was meant to be Tom Fabian 1.5? A teaser until the next solid read? ??? ???
Would I recommend The Songbird Girls? The last read was a SOLID 4 stars for me. This one barely scraps through to get 3. And that is generous because of the decent writing and gorgeous cover!
Many thanks to the publisher and author via Netgalley for a copy of The Songbird Girls for me to read and review.
4.5 Stars Kathryn Croft is one of my favourite thriller authors! I have enjoyed every one of her books that I have read! The Girl with No Past and The 4.5 Stars Kathryn Croft is one of my favourite thriller authors! I have enjoyed every one of her books that I have read! The Girl with No Past and The Girl You Lost were both fantastic! I want to read them all! I listened to the audio version of Silent Lies to bump it up my TBR!
When counsellor Mia takes an appointment with a woman named Alison, little did she know her life would take an incredible turn. “Your husband did not kill himself” Alison said to Mia. How does Alison know this? What is Mia about to find about her husband who killed himself 5 years ago after doing something awful.
Gripping! Fantastic! Such a great read! I absolutely LOVED it!
I loved all the messed-up characters, I loved the awful ones, and I loved the good ones!
There were heaps of twists and turns! Although I did guess the major one, It didn’t take too much away from the story.
I must admit the ending didn’t really do it for me, but again, it didn’t take much of the story away. I just absolutely love her writing!
Did I enjoy the audio version? Absolutely! I love it when there are two narrators. I really enjoyed each woman’s portrayal of each character! It was one of the better ones I have listened to lately! It would be a great thriller to start on audio!
Would I recommend Silent Lies? I think most thriller fans will enjoy this one. There is something great about Crofts writing, give it a go and see for yourself!
