I felt the same way. Stopped about 150 pages in! I am SO surprised to see it have such high ratings. It read at a juvenile level, and was just maybe one step above "Harlequin Romance Novel" status.
I just picked up this book because the TV series is starting tonight and I thought I would check it out. I'm returning it. I don't understand what all the fuss is about.
Right, I felt like it was just "good' gossipy fiction for awhile. Smothers over-reacting and making everything about themselves and then too many serious topics thrown II to the mix. It could have bee a great small town quirky mystery novel OR a book about the serious topics of abuse, bullying etc. I am still confused. Too much hype over this book.
I couldn't agree more! I truly can hardly believe the ratings this thing has gotten. I'm speechless.
I couldn't agree with you more! I can't believe all the great ratings this superficial book has gotten. I don't think domestic violence is ever "funny".
I was just talking to some friends about this book and they were aghast at the fact I didn't like it! So I came on here to see if I was alone. Finally I saw this review and it couldn't be more spot on! Now I don't feel so alone! Thank you! haha
Couldn't agree more. Too much superficial and meaningless drivel from unlikable characters. Couldn't get past chapter one
Yes!!! I’m on chapter 4 and I don’t get the hype. Nothing so far is pulling me in or making me care about these superficial people.
Couldn't agree more. Firstly, it's a travesty to classify this as a crime thriller -- and in Goodreads top 10 ??!! Ouch. Secondly, as a male chick-flick lover and aficionado of female protagonists, I found virtually nothing to like about these straw-woman characters. And do we really need the pop psychology about spousal abuse and bullying -- good grief, what was entertaining at all about this -- had it been set at Christmas time, I'd be saying bah humbug !! jb
I agree, the characters were more archetypes than truly developed individuals, the humor escaped me, and jumping between characters was jarring.
