Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1)

I had high hopes for Moon Called, considering how many people loved it and had great reviews. Unfortunately, it didn't do the same for me.
The story was slow and long-winded, and the characters spoke in riddles one too many times. In terms of the mystery, or story, it was really lacking and rushed. The writing was also flat and monotonous. I also didn't take very well to the "romance" in the book. There was no chemistry from start to finish and out of nowhere it appeared. I don't really know what to make of that.
The characters also didn't really stand out. Mercy just seemed to fade into the background. She just seemed to me as one of those snarky girls with a kind heart, but nothing else, really. I didn't find her ability to shift to a coyote all that special.
Mac and Bram are the only ones that I semi-liked. The male characters in the story just didn't seem to have much personality.
I don't really know what to make of this book. It was okay, the writing was okay, the characters were okay. The book had some sort of substance to it, but it didn't really draw me in. Perhaps this will change in book two.
