This book is waaaay too long. A good editor could cut hundreds of pages and improve the book. Some of the plot is driven by the protagonist acting like a bonehead. The climax and the ending are predictable. King does a good job with the settings, period details, and getting the historical facts right. I'm glad that he does not give credence to the conspiracy theories. There are many good characters and entertaining moments but the book is sometimes tedious and repetitive. Not King's best work.
