Until we see mainstream gay romances with happy endings, I won't read this book or watch the film. This is the stereotypical classic story of men who can't admit they're gay and when they try to be happy, it ends in tragedy.

ALL movies with gay main characters ended tragically until very very recently. It's a very specific stereotype that says once again that gay people can never really be happy. They have to be closeted and ashamed and then die. It makes me furious that Hollywood chose this as it's vehicle to bring a gay romance to the big screen. There are beautiful stories out there about gay men falling in love and dealing with these same issues that don't end in tragedy. That don't have men terrified of who they are and living a lie that is cruel to themselves and their families.

By always portraying gay leads as tragic, they aren't just saying that being in a gay relationship will end in tragedy, they're saying being gay will end in tragedy. It's time for the mainstream to see that being gay is okay even for leading men. You don't have to die or lose the love of your life just because you're gay. You can actually be happy.
