** spoiler alert **
This is a surprisingly dark book, considering it is about a bunch of farm animals who overthrow their abusive farmer to run the farm their own way. The ending is also very depressing. By this point you're probably thinking "What could be dark about a group of talking independent farm animals?" Well, the main antagonist of the book, Napoleon (who, spoiler alert, is based off of Joseph Stalin) and the other pigs experiment with whiskey, one of the most lovable characters in the book is sent to his death via slaughter house, and Napoleon has a team of blood thirsty pit bulls commit mass murder on any and all animals that somehow offended Napoleon. Plus, by the ending the animals are back to square one, but with longer work hours and less food. Also, it's implied that the pigs all super evolve into humans after behaving like humans, which is more creepy than anything else. However, the book does produce some lovable characters, and I really enjoyed the first few chapters of the book, including the animal revolution and a battle between the animals of animal farm and a bunch of farm hands from the neighboring farm. This is an okay book, but prepare for a disappointing ending
