Going back to other books I've read from this author I feel like I'm still holding grudges against Clayton, Jason, and Jordan. Their actions against their partners were horrible. I found them way too ruthless, but their stories were compelling enough to enthrall me to the very end. Almost Heaven is a long book, 475 pages long, and I stopped reading it at page 370. The writing, as always with McNaught, was brilliant. And even though I found Elizabeth's character (unlike other McNaught's more interesting heroines) shallow and predictable, the story was interesting enough to keep me engaged. Sadly, the main character's immensely stupid action made me dislike her so terribly, and my annoyance with her idiocy was such, that I lost interest in a book in which I'd had invested so much of my time. Bah!!!!

It sounds like "the big misunderstanding" totally turned you off. I liked this book, but I totally understand how you feel!!

The characters are mary-sues enough, at least let them make mistakes. I hate perfect characters myself
Nicely said Victoria. It's a little hard to enjoy the story when the characters actions and stupidity is too hard to ignore. Sorry it didn't work for you.
Here's the problem with Judith mcnaught books and the reason I stopped reading her: without fail, you will be reading along and loving the crap out of the book, and then WHAMMO: ridiculous misunderstanding + impossible-to-forgive-heartless reaction from hero = plot driver for next 100 pages. You can actually just skip the next 100 pages, go to where they make up, and continue reading almost like it didn't happen, which is what the heroine always does. I tried it. And that was when I stopped reading JM forever.
I think you ladies have said it all. I was really enjoying the book and this book really was almost heaven until it became a comedy of the absurd. That just so put a damper on my enjoyment, it's not even funny.
I just finally finished reading this book. I actually stopped somewhere at page 300+ for the same reasons you had. But out of boredom I continued reading it but skimmed some parts, especially Ian’s trial and Elizabeth’s return. The idiocy of the drama and conflict was too much. I couldn’t take it. The book is long-winded and dragged out with lots of contrivances especially on the part of Elizabeth’s character. Out of all Mcnaught’s HR heroes I hated Clayton and Jason the most. I could not just love them even in the end. Jordan pissed me off but I could not just hate him somehow. And he was able to redeem himself. I liked Ian but Elizabeth’s stupid actions made him cruel. Elizabeth is so predictable and stupid at times. Although she may not be as endearing as Alexandra is, I liked her independent spirit.
