Erotic. Based on the level and number of sex scenes, this jumped the line from "hot" to "erotic" PDQ. There was also a fair amount of humor throughout the book, some unintentional by the Hero because of his matter-of-fact personality. Lothaire, The Enemy of Old, was ruthless when it came to completing his 7 tasks. The list of "beings" that wanted to take him out was LONG. He was a vampire, that deliberately put his "bride" on ice for several years because he felt that was the safest place for her at the time. His "bride" was one of two people/things sharing a human body. Only which one was the question for alittle more than the first half of the book.

I liked Ellie/Elizabeth. Liked her character, her good heart, the way she bantered back with Lothaire, the way she wasn't a crybaby....

I wanted to thump Lothaire in the head a few times! What an ass. He ALMOST made my "hero hard to like shelf." He was very "all about me" and had never had a relationship--of any kind--where he had to put someone else's feeling before his own. He had a lot of learning to do and for someone that watched and spied on people as a hobby, he should have known more.

There was very little of the characters from past books. Nix came in and out toward the end and I enjoyed her character. Some new characters were introduced, Hag AKA Balery and whatnot. Many new men from the Dacia (sp?) that may bring about more books in this series....

Nicely written and hard to put down.
