Oppression

This is the story of women battling against circumstance, religion, family and men, both in the UK and Egypt. It also shows the kinship women feel for each other, despite being of different races and backgrounds. It made me realise how lucky I am to not live under any sort of oppression. The characters in this novel are believable, inspiring and I was rooting for them!
Dianne Noble's descriptions are powerful without being overdone. They place the reader amidst the sights, smells and sounds of Cairo and Yorkshire. Being from Yorkshire, I enjoyed the authentic dialogue in the parts of the story set there. I've never been to Egypt but after reading Oppression, I feel like I have.
I received an ARC of Oppression in exchange for an honest review.
