The Hate U Give (The Hate U Give, #1)

From the first chapter, it seems stunningly clear how badly we all needed this book and it's also clear just how insane it is that we are only getting it now.
Angie Thomas makes it all seem so easy. She has managed to write about something fraught and hard to face with free flowing language, immense vulnerability and humanity, and a staggering honesty of the world of this book.
It is neither bleak nor sugarcoated - just an authentic portrayal of a community that is rarely reflected with the honor and pathos that it should be.
I cannot recommend this book enough for absolutely everyone -- but most of all, of course, teens.
