Looks like I never finished my review last fall and since I just finished a re-read, here goes...

This was recommended to me by my 17 yr niece, who turns me on to books I might not otherwise pay much attention to. She spent a year telling me to read this so I finally broke down and bought a copy. She knows I've been doing a fair amount of reading on stories from and about the children/teens/young adults in both world wars, so this was right up my alley. Two young women in a man's world, doing "a man's job" because there weren't the men to do them. The story is beautifully descriptive, suspenseful and well written. It's a tale of friendship and loss, strength and courage. And the ending left me wanting to start it all over again. Even on the second reread less than a year later, it held me in thrall to the last page.

Started it two nights ago and I'll have it done tonight. LOVE the story. Gives me a fresh perspective on some of the roles girls and women played in WW2, much like the series by Horst Christian gave me the perspective of German teens during the war. Can't wait to finish!"
