Animal Farm, George Orwell. creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which
Orwells world famous political allegory satire about communism. Read in the 80s it so stuck with me like forever, and I loved the Eurythmics and Annie Lenox was hot, off track but not really just shows my age. Hierarchies exist everywhere and in every era of time, we must treat each other better no matter your station in life, evil must be hounded out of communities, the next generations need caring guidance in about treating each other kinder, sounds simple but is it? apparently lot of places it isn't, bit preachy and what.
Another thing.. I remember it was profound made me become interested in communism George Orwell and all that drama. Russian revolution leaders Trotsky's favourite quote Life is not an easy matter... You cannot live through it without falling into frustration and cynicism unless you have before you a great idea which raises you above personal misery, above weakness, above all kinds of perfidy and baseness. Lenin favourite quote Freedom in capitalist society always remains about the same as it was in ancient Greek republics: Freedom for slave owners. The animal farm is dripping with allegorical cynicism to the maximum it rises up above all of life's troubles just like fresh water in a shit pond. A poor comparison but can't think of anything better.

After 1956 Hungary, NZ communism party members left in large numbers and by 1968 Czechoslovakia crush, communism in New Zealand had ceased to exist dying of natural causes. Radicals and super crazy social ideas are their own worst enemy and pretty much have no chance in the long game versus slowly changing the status quo through persistence and letting everyone who votes for you know that you are middle of the road and are inclusive and not exclusivise.

George Orwell
“Comrades!' he cried. 'You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organisation of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink the milk and eat those apples.”
