really liked it

I found these women & children’s life’s heart warming and heart breaking. I had no idea of Korean’s place in Japanese society and how cruel a birth right can be. As Korea works towards resolving their differences, these stories are so poignant. What do you do when your country, Japan for most of the characters, particularly considering they invaded when Sunja was quite young, disowns you although they created your circumstances? When you are forced to carry a passport from a country you’ve never stepped foot in? This book has definately sent me on a path to read more about Japan & Korea. I’m so well read on WWII from an American/European perspective, but really know little about Japan’s reasons and choices...
