I admire the ambition and creativity with this story, but unfortunately I couldn't find myself attached to any of the characters and the stakes, and often found the writing to be convoluted and scattered.

Kaitlyn I agree. The beginning gave me high hopes, but it turned into a slog during the last half.

Bookworm Same. I didnt love the protagonists so the story was not so compelling for me.

message 5: by Juliane (new)

Juliane I struggle with the same thing regarding her Wayward Children series. Was thinking of picking this up hoping it was a fluke, but now I worry that it's her writing that didn't connect with me, and not the characters...

I read 4 of her Wayward Children books and I think the only one I really liked was the 2nd one about the twin sisters.

Elizabeth This was exactly how I felt. It was super creative but it felt like she got so wrapped up in her own concept that she let the plot and the characters fall to the side, and I never really felt like I understood what the point of any of it was, or why I should care.

Isa King I really don't understand the appeal of Mcguire in general tbh. Her plots are overly convoluted and also surprisingly predictable, and her prose is middling at best.

Marlena Trujillo Feeling the same. Would have abandoned but it's for my book club, and I like to talk about the books. But honestly, it was boring.
