Read 2 times. Last read March 26, 2024 to March 27, 2024.
I think the best part about rereading this book as an adult is realizing that the last time I read it was pretty soon before I had my own international school overseas experience. And not realizing how perfectly I would be able to relate to Dinnie just a few years later. Once I realized that, this story took on new meaning for me during this reread.
The experience she has in this book is so similar to what I experienced in Amsterdam. You really feel your bubble expanding to include so much more than you ever imagined. The world shrinking and you expanding in unfamiliar but exciting ways. And the way Creech examines the love that develops between her friends, that is a connection that is definitely partial to an international experience.
Sharon Creech writes so well for kids, and I still love her writing as an adult. There’s nothing like a well written middle grade novel to make the world and it’s problems seem so fixable, and the world so beautiful.

Love Sharon Creech’s writing in Walk Two Moons! I’ll have to add this one to my Want to Read list.
