really liked it

Very short but an emotional read. This was one of the class sets of books for my 7th graders, and I think I am going to start off the quarter with this text as part of my unit.

What I really liked about this novel is that it touched on some very complex topics but didn't dive too deep into them which will allow for some rich and challenging discussion for my students.

I will definitely be including additional texts into my classroom to supplement this one, maybe do a linked text set unit?? While this was a great book, I think I would not be doing Sarny justice if I didn't include texts from POC authors who talk about slavery and literacy. I definitely need to add some more diverse authors into my classroom text sets, so maybe next year I can ask for another shorter book to pair with it from a POC author.
