This is a good book, but not a good horror. There are some frightening scenes, but, alas, many books will have those without being horror. This more a slow-paced, philosophical read; it discusses the thoughtless arrogant ambitions of scientists and the harm they cause, morality, as well as many other things. The monster turns out to be not a monster at all. The true monster is the man who created him, without thought about the creature's feelings. The monster is even a vegetarian!

Mary Shelley's prose is rather enjoyable, if a bit over-dramatic at times. I wold also recommend reading the works of her mother (Mary Wollstonecraft), father (William Godwin), and husband (Percy Bysshe Shelley) if one has interest in further researching the author's life and work. Their influence to the writing and story are quite remarkable.
