Last of the Mohicans

After 180 years, the flaws seem obvious enough, but Cooper handles suspense very well, maybe one reason why this has become such an icon of Americana. I'm surprised none of the film version portrayed Cora as mulatto, Natty might have been protesting his cross-less heritage a bit too much, and I could have done without the speechifying and melodrama, but this is a very satisfying novel.
