I was introduced to this book by Jordan Peterson, as he has this book on his website as a must read in Psychology. Every book that Peterson has discussed as of yet has been worth reading, and this book didn't disappoint either.
Rogers was the first psychologist to truly develop a humanitarian perspective on psychotherapy, and so his ideas are ahead of their time when we remember that this book was written over 50 years ago. I found many of the ideas to be useful in my own pursuit of learning about psychotherapy, as he references Rank, Freud & Kierkegaard frequently throughout. The first half of the book i found to be more interesting than the latter, although the books chapters are not in any particular order, as they are a selection of his essays on the topic.
Anyone who is interested in self-help and its relations to psychotherapeutic methods as well as its philosophical implications will find this book to be an interesting read. Overall, i found it to have some good ideas and it (at the time) was obviously a valuable piece of literature.
