This is my all time favorite classic novel.
The richness of the characters is wonderful. My favorite character is Larry. I first read this book in my early twenties when I was searching for spiritual meaning in everyday life. I fell in love with Larry and his free-spirited wandering path. Sophie is another favorite character. She is all at once vulnerable, strong, damaged and brave. Actually, I think that describes all the characters. They are in no way one-dimensional and as the story progresses, the characters grow. I love it!
