it was amazing
bookshelves: animal-ethics

This is a fantastic book to educate yourself on how we exploit animals for food. It also does a good job of debunking myths about veganism and offering devastating counter arguments. It also masters reader engagement, which is probably why this book is specifically what I'd recommend immediately for somebody who is new to the topic of basic animal ethics.

My only criticism of the book isn't really the fault of the piece but of my own preference; I would have liked it to be more philosophical (such as Peter Singer does) in its argumentations rather than being mostly descriptive. I highly recommend this one, though for a more seasoned reader of this subject it didn't go deep enough for me. I could easily rate this 4 stars instead of 5 but I have to be honest in how accessible and easy-to-read the book is. I'm putting my personal preference to one side.

I would like to end this review with a devastating quote that is featured in this book. If this descriptive point doesn't at least make you think, I don't know what will.

"Our grandchildren will ask us one day: Where were you during the Holocaust of the animals? What did you do against these horrifying crimes? We won't be able to offer the same excuse for the second time, that we didn't know." - Helmut Kaplan
