Gathering Blue is set in a world of savagery, neglect, abuse, and a distinct class system. Hmm, sound familiar? Governing the populace through fear, The Council of Guardians manipulate the ignorant people, hoard knowledge, and attempt to control the future for their own selfish gain. Amidst the chauvinism, cruelty and strife we are delighted in the story of a benevolent and courageous girl who with her talents and strength has a desire to make the world a better place. This is the second book, after The Giver, in a loose trilogy by the very talented Lois Lowry.
