This is simply not sustaining my interest. Why? It's full of elements I should enjoy (folklore-based fantasy system, mystery, quips, smart mc).
I loved the first Jackaby book, liked the second less but still enjoyed it, was kind of meh about the third... I tried the first of a different series by this author and dnf that either. Oh well.
I do recommend book 1, though! And the larger plot arc really isn't present yet then, so it works as a stand-alone.
