“After just two days of the possibilities of Venice, I said, ‘We should live here.’ And Tom’s answer was, ‘We should fly to the moon.’ But he was smiling.”

starting off by saying that i LOVED the writing in this, especially patrick’s point of view. he is such a great and interesting character and my god i relate to him so much. his remarks on art and the way he describes his feelings are so tender and SWEET. like absolutely sweet. i love him.

the thing that bothered me is the lack of tom’s point of view here. marion and patrick (mostly marion) are telling his story, but i would’ve liked to read more of tom’s feelings (although i suppose that’s the whole point … he doesn’t get a voice in his own story, because he never did)

also. this was SO SAD i don’t know why i keep reading lgbtq+ tragic love stories when i KNOW it’s gonna make me cry. still …. it’s an interesting book. it has a lot of flaws but it was a good read nevertheless.

hopefully the film will capture the good things in this
story.
