The Autobiography of Malcolm X

I read this book because I was studying the Civil Rights era and wanted to learn more about why Malcolm X was such an important figure during that time.
I read it twice, immediately, because I was so moved by the deft hand that Haley put to arranging these stories. I was surprised by Malcolm X's warmth and humor and self-awareness, and you can hear his own voice so clearly throughout the book.
I had not expected to be inspired, but Malcolm X's consistent fight for intellectual and spiritual integrity, and especially the humility that came to him during his tour of Africa - I felt blessed to have had a window into a life lie this one.
