This voluminous book was quite good when it focused on Chiang Kai-Shek and those closest to him, but when it came to the minor characters they were a myriad of names flurrying through the pages, which the author failed to make memorable by any real character development. Then, many pages later, the author would just drop them back in and expect the reader to remember them. I felt if they were important enough to include, there should have been more to their appearances in the book; probably many should have been trimmed.
