it was amazing
bookshelves: 2024, have-read-in-english

As someone who studied Arab history for five years at university a while ago, this book was the perfect summary of the main events from the Ottoman conquests until 2009. The hopeful ending quite broke my heart, I don’t think the author imagined the horrific events of our days would come.

I commend the author for being very objective throughout the book and to give us the views of all sides in the wars and conflicts in these centuries. But it was very hard to not feel infuriated for what the world (and the UN Security Council) let happen (and continues to let happen) to Palestine. I don’t think the author foresaw the brutalities and killings that would come in 2024, and how the US would continue its insane military and budgetary support while the UN Security Council is not able to even acknowledge the atrocities. I hate talking about politics but it’s unavoidable when writing a review about a book specifically written about politics. We can only hope for a brighter future to come.
