Obsidian is the first installment in author Jennifer L. Armentrout's Lux series. I enjoyed Obsidian. Typically, I am annoyed when young adult, paranormal stories resemble the The Twilight Saga...and Obsidian did quite a bit; however, it didn't really bother me. The incorporation of aliens along with the characters' personalities and interactions with each other was different enough to keep my eye-roll at bay and to perk my interest in continuing the series- which I plan to do. I would recommend it to fans of young adult, paranormal/alien stories with a bit of angsty romance.

Note: Although this book falls in the young adult genre, there are a few mature scenes related to sexual interest/activity.

My favorite quote:
“I've always found that the most beautiful people, truly beautiful inside and out, are the ones who are quietly unaware of their effect." His eyes searched mine intently, and for a moment we stood there toe to toe. "The ones who throw their beauty around, waste what they have? Their beauty is only passing. It's just a shell hiding nothing but shadows and emptiness.”
