I can't believe i've been putting this book off for 2+ years and it was only 150-ish pages....
i am torn on how to feel! part of me loved the dystopian aspect (a world in which firemen set fires instead of put them out) but it was just so confusing. reading this felt as though i was living in a fever dream lol. the last part felt pretty rushed and honestly, i wanted more from the ending! very glad i read it and i feel it's fitting that this was my 99th book of the year!
(and no, i did not read this in middle/high school! props to all of you that did though because at the ripe age of 28 i am still confused 😌)

It actually helps to read it in school because you can discuss it and figure out those deeper meanings! But on your own, yeah it’s tough!
i just appreciate that you put your honest ratings. so many booktok influencers rate everything 4 or 5 stars and it makes my eye twitch
I have the distinct memory of being so confused with the metaphors in this book in 9th grade English class
Whew - I thought I was the only one confused. Once ChatGPT got involved, I understand it so much better. But just reading it blind I was struggling!
I use this in my 8th grade honors class and have to remind my students it is science fiction and written over 60 years ago. Too much of it feels like our world today.
I’m 33 and I had to look up spark notes to understand some parts of this book and if they were literal or symbolic
