The Sirens

I'm afraid to say this book put me in a serious reading slump. Granted, I had extremely high expectations—Weyward, her debut, was exceptional and remains one of my all-time favorites. Add in mermaids, shipwrecks, and mystery, and I was on pins and needles waiting for its release.
Sadly, I just couldn't get into The Sirens for the life of me. It had a lot of interesting elements, but the storytelling felt somewhat rushed and scattered. A few of the characters felt one-dimensional and seemed to exist mainly to tie together loose ends—it just didn’t feel believable.
There was an amazing story just beneath the surface (pun intended). I did love certain parts, and there’s some truly beautiful writing throughout, but overall, the story just didn’t work for me. 2.5 stars, rounded up.
