Oh my GOD THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED!!!! I’ve been slightly slumpy recently and this definitely pulled me out of it!
- Gothic Romance
- Dark Academia
- Thriller
- Touches of Horror
- Sci-Fi Vibes
- Professor/Student
- ADHD rep
Sydney is a mycologist (she really likes fungi) studying at Stanford and gets accepted into a program at the Madrona Foundation on an isolated island, where a fungi that is native to that island is located that is proving to be promising in a chance to cure Alzheimer’s. Catch is, no phones, no socials, no connection to the outside world is allowed so people tend to go crazy from the isolation, or at least that’s what everyone is telling her when things start to get REAL weird. She starts seeing things, seeing warnings against the Foundation and is starting to not trust her own mind… so she turns to her professor/psychologist, Dr. Kincaid, who she also may or may not be crushing on, for help.
You guys. I was so spooked at parts of this book and I LOVED IT!!!!!! It transported me and had my brain going 90 to nothing.
The ADHD rep actually made me cry. I felt so seen and didn’t even realize I needed that.
The plot twist, I NEVER saw it coming. I was trying to figure out what was going on the whole book, and I was so glad to be shocked with the outcome!!!
Also, Dr. Kincaid…. Yall his mouth. HIS MOUTH. The spice was spicing!!!!
I loved this. Read it. It’s so fun!!!

This is up there as one of my next few reads. I have it sitting and need to get to it. I'm glad this one was a hit since the past few haven't been hits. I know the struggle!
