it was amazing
bookshelves: sci-fi, space-opera, favorites

I really loved this one. Lots of threads from the overall plot pulling together in a great way, and the pace stayed very high.

I've seen a couple people describe this series as "competency-porn scifi" which I've never heard of before, but I think it fits - in general, the main characters are clever, careful, and make solid, interesting decisions based on the info they have. It doesn't always work out, because of course that's how things go - we can do our best and still fail - but it mostly works out. This isn't a series where the plot is driven by bad decisions made by the main characters. I can't think of any time in the series where a character has taken action that I thought was idiotic (I say "taken action" because Stella frequently has a narrative that I think is idiotic, but at least she's fairly dependable in actions).

I'm glad I finally picked this series up, I'll be putting it up there with Tanya Huff's Valor/Confederation series as some of my favorites in this genre.
