Like all of Leon's work, this one is a grand tour through Venice, high and low. Detective Brunetti is a classic character who knows what he should know, never oversteps his bounds in judgment, and gets the case solved. It's rich with culture, feeling, and humanity. The whole series is terrific, but I liked this one in particular.
